Well, they just took mom's respirator out and we're watching to see how she does. Hopefully it will go well and we won't be forced to make the decision about whether or not to reintubate.
*fingers crossed*
*gentle hugs*This day has been more exhausting than any of the others. She has been off the vent for almost 12 hours and is maintaining her oxygen levels, with an O2 mask. As soon as that mask comes off, her levels drop dangerously. It seems like it would be easy to just keep the mask on... but...
She's delirious. She has pulled it off so many times. She's restrained, too. But she keeps finding a way to scoot down in bed and pull at it. Even in her delirium, she's crafty.
She only recognizes us some of the time. She doesn't know what year it is or where she is. She is having full blown hallucinations, as well. She's talking in her semi-conscious state, probably just saying her dreams out loud.
Worse than that, she's calling for her (now dead) parents. She lays with her eyes closed and calls, "Daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy..." like a chant. She asked us to go find him. She's done the same with her mom. "Mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy..." She has asked us to pray for her soul and keeps saying she wants to go home. Whether she's talking about the 3 bedroom split foyer on the other side of town, or heaven, I can't tell. Neither can her husband or my sister. She's begging us to help her help her help her help her and to hurry up hurry up hurry up... She says she can't take it anymore, that she's so sorry. But she sounds like a small child, like a four year old.

Tonight she's seeming a little bit lucid. She knows what hospital she's in and who the president is. She's asleep right now, finally, and I'm hoping she's still in good shape like this when she wakes up. If they find out she's on the right antibiotics tomorrow (after the culture results are in), then hopefully we'll have a more clear picture of her recovery time-line. It's amazing how different things can be 24 hours later.
Thanks for all the hugs and love. It has meant so much to me today!
es back to my GWLG friends!
