I was talking to a girl at work today and she said the thread title. It was one of those things that just struck me as incredibly poetic, maybe a bit dirty.

Talk about and opening line hook
It has so many, many possibilities.

Exactly! I thought that would be a great story title, or opening line of a story. Or even a theme for a story. There is just such a depth to the phrase.
I was just wondering how you'd manage to bend over and pick it up.

Well... that actually brings up another thing that came to mind, which is how many different ways it can be interpreted.
Is her halo down because she's been naughty? In which case I would assume she would bend down at the waist, maybe peek between her legs at the people watching.
Is her halo down because she's been beaten down by life, and unintentionally exposed? In which case she'd kind of squat trying to hide everything with her hands while she picks it up.
I think, in order for us all to appreciate your opening line, we will need details. Give us the details, what did you say, then what did she say? This sort of thing is all context baby.![]()
No, for me the poignancy of the phrase is context independent.
But if you really must know it had to do with figurines. Her grandmother made figurines of her and her brother with little halo's. Her brother's halo kept falling off, but even when her figurine was knocked off the shelf it kept it's halo. Then she said, "Now my halo is down around my ankles."
