My bf recently told me that he really likes the idea of purchasing some sounding rods. Then he pulled up a porn he had stashed away in the depths of his computer that was video of it.
I had never heard of it before, so since then I have been ferociously reading everything I can about it, and then last night I finally mustered up the courage and ordered some.
I told him I ordered him something, but didn't tell him what.

I want to use them at some point when I'm being dom (we switch), so here's my question: If you wanted them used on you, would you rather know about it ahead of time, and have to anticipate it? Possibly use it as a reward? Or would it be more exciting to be in the middle of a scene, and pull them out to surprise him?

I'm trying to make this as exciting as possible for him, so any advice would be appreciated!

I think the first step you can take in order to make it exciting for him is to make it SAFE. Others may have a different opinion, but sounds aren't something i would play with unless i knew absolutely what i was doing. You are playing with a very delicate area and there is a very real possibility that you could injure him. Also, make sure you know how to properly sterilize the sounds themselves, because infection is a very real risk as well.

I would not do it as a completely "out of the blue" surprise. I think there is an element of mental readiness that must be present in order for any new experience to be successful.

I agree - using them on/in someone as a surprise can be a cool mind-fuck but only if that is what the relationship is about. My pee had blood and burned like hell the first day afterward - but now I know what to expect and there is not problem.

I saw a demonstration of them being used on a guy down in El Paso. All I can say is it may be a good idea to find someone who has experience with them to train you on their proper use.

The Dom couple down in EP are both retired medical people so they are way up on the sterilization and healthy safety. They used LOTS of lube both on the sounds and the penis, were in no hurry whatsoever and went nice and slow.

I found out later that the same sub had a previous very bad sounding experience with someone who was overzealous and inexperienced.

Video training with pro Dom/sub's might be a good thing to consider doing. I could see something like that happening.

I wanted to give an update!

First of all, Extreme Restraints is sloooww, so we had to wait. It came in Friday in the morning. We opened it up immedietly and then made ourselves wait all day to use it.

We had a lot of fun! (And thanks Shankara for the sterilization tips.) Although we didn't get to have sex. We played with it first, and then when we were done he said he was feeling a little uncomfortable so we waited til the morning. Oh well, it was still cool.
Although, it wasn't really that sexual. I still wanted to have sex, but the act in itself wasn't sexual at all. Hmm, oh well.

We'll probably do it again but i doubt it will be a regular thing for us. I have a feeling it will be similar to our experience with the cock ring, he'll use it alone more than we'll use it together!

I've only had sounds done on me once, and found them to be quite fun.

I can imagine lots of scenarios where they could be integrated.

In my experience (both having them and watching them) you don't actually have to "shove" the sound at all, if you just "let it go" and everything is well lubed (surgical lube is preferred) they will just "slide" down.

Haven't experimented with bigger sizes or curves or electrical sounds or catheters, but that's all out there too.

Keep in mind that SAFETY is a big deal here, as you are putting something not just into a body cavity, but actually deep into the body, and can be touching internal organs (prostate), so INFECTION CONTROL (gloves, sterilization, cleaning of the surface of the penis tip with antiseptic, etc.) is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

I've seen debate about boiling water sterilization versus medical sterilization (autoclave) and don't know where the "official dust" has settled on that.

Lots of different kinds

There are different kinds, and they often come in SETS of different diameters, so you can work up to the big ones.

I've seen one worldly fellow who can take those massive ones that are more than 1/3" in diameter. Scary. (But exciting!).

I expect to have more of this as more CBT comes into the picture.
