Chicago Litogether 2008 After Action Report

That's why I miss playing live so much. Sitting there playing acoustically really isn't my thing. Put me in front of a really loud metal band, and I'm home. :D

Maybe I'll bring it for your next shoulder treatment. ;)

Well, we did try to come watch you play one night ... but ... noooooooo :p :D

Mmmm ... yes ... we do need to arrange that, don't we? ;)

They made me play clarinet in Jr High & High School, and I never made it past second chair (and to this day have a phobia about putting anything wooden in my mouth). I play classical piano and have been a performing guitar/bass player for 20+ years (and a teacher for 15). High school band is not for everyone.

I love classical guitar. My late father was a music teacher and started me on the flute in 3rd grade. I probably could have been good but those long tones to develop embroucher were too much for my hyperkenesis. He tried trombone and I probably could have gone with that but the school needed it back. Guitar was impossible. I couldn't bend my left wrist far enough to hit the strings properly. Singing I got good at. Unfortunately, my voice is merely good, not sufficiently great to be a pro. Just as well. Toured. It sucked. Music it too much fun to make into work.

S-Des, way to go. A dear friend of mine plays drums, his son just got accepted to th e New England Conservatory in Boston. He is so proud and so happy. I hope your daughter loves playing the guitar, and music in general. Music is definitely one of my first loves. :)

My nephew is in his second year at a big music school. He is going to be an amazing guitar player (he already plays some stuff I can't).

I agree completely. I enjoy it much more now that I have a good "day job" (even though I work 3rd shift). I had an offer to do a couple of European tours with a small band (just bopping their way across a few countries), but I already had my daughter and wasn't going to disappear for 3 months at a time. That's a hard life.

I love classical too. My teacher was not only a famous metal player, he had a master's in classical (or however that works). My one big regret on guitar is being too busy learning solos to take the time to learn classical or flamenco.

It's a difficult way of life, for sure. I guess it's fortunate that I didn't have the baritone to do opera and wasn't anywhere I could get trained as a countertenor. I'd have spent my 20's in a small German opera company struggling to get back to the US to the big time. And I don't even really like opera. Wouldn't have minded being the token straight guy in Chanticleer, though.

I would have had pictures on my Ipod (I usually do, to amuse and annoy everyone in range), but I didn't think it would go well with the ones I had stored to show FieryJen.

Er... yeah, that was probably a good plan.

Love that guitar, by the way. I hope your daughter will, too. :)

Oh, very nice. I'll sure she'll love it.

Yeah, she adored it. I retuned it to 'Open E', so she could just strum the strings and get a chord. She's got amazing hands for playing. I've had students for months that don't take to it as naturally as she did. The question will be her level of commitment. She's quite the flighty little munchkin.

Thanks Jen. When they first came into the store, I was just thrilled. They're fairly easy to play (but still use metal strings), look really cool, and were reasonably priced. I just wonder how long it will take for her to put a big dent in it.

Wholly untrue. There are certain things that people can hone to an art, and you do have that ability. :rose:
