Where does one begin? I have never read much erotica but I have found I sure can write it! As a writer I find it thrilling! I do have some reservations and not sure where or who to voice them to! (concerning how I will be viewed professionally) Any suggestions for a new writer? Is it easy to break into erotica? (I'm a freelance content/copy writer currently) Oh and has anyone taken the wade-erotic course? Sorry for the 50 questions and TIA for any advice!

Welcome. :rose:

I'll leave the writing advice to the more accomplished and experienced folks. :)

Hello to you. How to be a smut writer, you ask? The only advice I can give is the same advice I was given: Write it, write it, and write it. Then, edit it, edit it, and edit it. Then, see what happens.

wow thanks for the great welcome! oh and I was looking at the Earth Day contest! I definitely will try to enter that! Being a huge hippie freak I think I could write something super authentic! lol

I will be hanging around these boards alot I think. ;)

I will definitely try to come up with a pen name. But what do you tell people you write? for me it will be easy to lie because I do write in other genres, though not fiction. but man, I can't wait to shock someone one day. hehehe.

Smut writer. Yeah, me too. That's what I want to do....:D

Welcome and good luck.

Welcome to the AH.

Is it easy to break into erotica? Yes. Just post stories here. ;)

Now to be published, that's a little trickier. Most erotica is published by e-publishers which for some people lacks a certain cachet. But that's their problem. E-books are, I believe, the next big thing. There are some erotica writers in print, but there aren't many that I'm aware of.

Looking forward to reading your stuff. :)

Depends on who it is. Some people I just tell I'm writing stories, some I tell I'm writing erotica and others I allow that some of it is outright porn. (Alright, most of it.) It depends who I'm talking to and how I think they'd deal with it. I don't advertise it at my current job.

I handle it pretty much the same. I'm very careful about who knows the details. Usually I just leave it at "writing", which isn't a lie, and most people don't really want to know more anyway.

are you making $ writing erotica? I would like to publish short stories. I hear the market is biggest in England?

I'm making a few here and there. Some contests here, some for pay web sites, not a lot. Some other people here have e-book contracts too. You might notice pictures and links of their books in their sig line on the boards here.

hmmm. i was thinking print publications. like maybe magazines? is there a list somewhere? or is it not big here in the US? that is kinda weird, no?

I don't know much about e-books. are they self published? I will definitely check into that. what ones are your favorites? :) like I said earlier I have not read a whole lot of erotica oddly enough. I only just discovered I like writing it though!

oh, does anyone plan or have self published hard copy books?

Well, if you click on that link I put in my first post, you'll see print anthologies then magazines down the left hand side of the screen.

No. E-books are not self published.

E-book publishers are just like print book publishers, but their output is strictly available in electronic formats. You can download the books from the publisher's website or from other sites.

Phaze and Aspen Mountain Press are my publishers.

Fictionwise is an e-bookseller.

My royalties last year for all my e-books was not quite $150 US. ;)

thanks for the info. will check these links out too in a bit!

you know I am a poet and working on self publishing a chap book series. it seems like the erotica (well short stories) might be an idea for something like that. I wondered if anyone has tried that? hmmm...

I am definitely looking to make $.
