"The facilities should be separate. When God has drawn a line of distinction, we should not attempt to cross that line."

Falwell's jeremiad continued: "The true Negro does not want integration.... He realizes his potential is far better among his own race." Falwell went on to announce that integration "will destroy our race eventually. In one northern city," he warned, "a pastor friend of mine tells me that a couple of opposite race live next door to his church as man and wife."

As pressure from the civil rights movement built during the early 1960s, and President Lyndon Johnson introduced sweeping civil rights legislation, Falwell grew increasingly conspiratorial. He enlisted with J. Edgar Hoover to distribute FBI manufactured propaganda against the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and publicly denounced the 1964 Civil Rights Act as "civil wrongs."

For Falwell and his allies, the true impetus for political action came when the Supreme Court ruled in Green v. Connally to revoke the tax-exempt status of racially discriminatory private schools in 1971. At about the same time, the Internal Revenue Service moved to revoke the tax-exempt status of Bob Jones University, which forbade interracial dating. (Blacks were denied entry until 1971.)

The point in that NOW in THIS race it's the dems who are leaning on religion (something they should be ashamed of given past comments about the relegious right) and it's Obama who is following the raciest preachers.

Reverend Parsley says Islam is an "anti-Christ religion" brought down from a "demon spirit." Of course, we are in a war against all Muslims, including presumably Muslim-Americans. Buts since Parsley believes this is a Christian nation and that it should be run as a theocracy, he is not very concerned what Muslim-Americans think.

And it’s not just Muslims he’s got it in for. Last year, Parsley’s organization called for people who commit adultery to be prosecuted, and in January he compared Planned Parenthood to the Nazis.

To be clear: I think it’s appropriate for the media to be scrutinizing Wright. But given that Parsley has a record of making equally offensive public statements (more offensive, I’d argue, but never mind), there’s clearly a double standard here.

Do a little research on Jerry Falwell or hell, read the posts I made about him. He was a racist and bigot of the highest order and shook hands with many a Republican President and Presidential nominee.

That's been the downfall of nearly every evangelical preacher that squirms his way into a mega-church. They either get caught embezzling or sleeping with their secretary... or their secretary's son... or all of the above.
