So am I the only person who finds it ironic that a black activisit may be the person who single handedly destroyed the best chance for the first black president of the US?

Whether he distances himself from Pastor Wright or not, will his friend's disgusting speech alienate white voters to the point that Obama cannot recover?

After all a pastor giving a sermon on God Damn America is not likely to endear himself to the majority of the country.

I don't think he's done, but he's certainly badly wounded. I also don't think this will blow over, because the Reps won't let it blow over, even if Hillary Clinton does.

Obama still leads in delegate count, but if he loses PA big, and MI and FL confirm their previous vote, he can be counted out. Right now, it looks like that is what is going to happen.

There will be a Democrat candidate but...it may be neither Obama or Clinton.

Neither Clinton or Obama can surpassed the needed number of delegates with the remaining primaries...fact number one.

The so called 'super delegates', the cigar smoking back room power brokers will be faced with choosing one or the other. Fact deux....

Fact number three, even in the best case scenario for Clinton, she cannot overtake Obama in either delegate count or popular vote totals when all is said and done.

Now...if the super delegates give Obama he heave ho, when he is leading Clinton, there will be hell to pay in the rank and file democrats across the country.

The pundits and talking heads are saying the democrat powers that be (behind the scenes) will not allow the choice to fall to the convention...this is second hand information, I cannot confirm it as fact, but that is what the blogosphere says.

When Obama is reduced to a quivering mass of cafe' mocha bleeding flesh, the media will then descend on Hillary with all fours. I would not be surprised to see a sexual escapade exposed of ms Hillary somewhere between now and the middle of June, prior to the dems convention.

With two damaged and flawed final candidates, the possibility arises that the powers that be in the cigar smoke filled rooms in Chicago, with Dean conducting the choir, may call upon for former candidate as a possible challenger to McCain....this is stretching it, I know...but....still...within the realm of the possible if not the probable.

I sense it has to go to an open convention where all hell will break loose, perhaps much like Chicago, 1968 (google it u newbies)

If McCain, over seventy years of age, doesn't have a stroke or a heart attack or a serious illness before November, and if he chooses a suitable VP candidate that satisfies the party and the demographics, there is a good chance the Repugs will have at least another four years in the White House.

Congress, I dunno, depends on the economy and a continued quietude in Iraq, but a big event by Bin Laden, could also color the mix.

One hell of a great season of political theatre, do you not agree?

If you want it that way, then let's get to Obama's response speech.

No one has ever addressed racial issues in public in such a universally sympathetic way as Obama did.

You may be clouded by your hatred of Liberals, but as this diffuses into the public awareness, this speech will be remembered as something historic. It will be remembered as an epic act of reconciliation and a textbook example of even-handed insight.

Obama's opponents dropped this Wright bomb at the wrong time. It will not be Obama's Mark Foley moment. It is not the NY Giants' last second touchdown. Obama's enemies have finally shot their last and greatest political wad at him and he stayed rock steady - and he thus parried this attack with perfection. That is no hyperbole.

You name me an example of anyone who has steered his political ship this well through waters that rough.

If Obama continues to remain as eloquent, insightful and classy as he has been, this will wear off. He's got a month to go before Pennsylvania. That's a long time.

He can do this.

By November McCain will be the incumbent President in most people's minds. Dubya has practically moved McCain into the Oval Office already.

Note that I DO NOT LIKE McCAIN and wont vote for him, but everyone else will. Hillary and Obama are fucking the Democrat's chance to capture the White House. And race/sex isnt the culprit; the nasty struggle for the nomination is.

I admit, my own opinion is that this will be the most negative election in many years. I don't think many Republicans are excited about McCain. The conservatives don't trust him, and frankly I find his flip-flopping on his core values from a few years ago very disturbing.

Obama has the issues raised here. I do think that he has responded to Rev. Wright as well as possible, I just don't know if any response will be enough. (By the way, I am just as appalled with the idiot minister from TX and I am white)

Clinton also has obvious baggage. No one is neutral on her, people either love her or hate her. I don't see her picking up a lot of undecided votes, since I don't think anyone is undecided about her.

Ultimately, I doubt many votes will be cast this November FOR anyone. People voting for Clinton or Obama will do so mostly because they absolutely despise Pres. Bush. People voting for McCain will do so mostly because they abhor the Democrats and the "Liberals".

I admit, though, I am curious to see what is going to happen.

Or will they vote for McCain out of spite and give him a huge landslide? 47% of the country have said they wouldn't vote for Hillary for any reason so if she is in it's very tight from the start. No, but Obama's speech did. The part about everyone having someone in their family that have said things that make them cringe, yet they refuse to disown them is QFT, at least from my perspective.

I have a lot of respect for McCain, for his service to this country in so many ways, but I don't see him as a fit president. He's older than Reagan was when elected in 1980, and senility seems to be starting to set in. He's forgetting things, having to be corrected by others, etc.

We can't afford to go through another presidency with a vacant mind in the oval office being puppeted by "advisors".

And you can't say Obama will be the same because of his "inexperience". He will have people giving him advice of course, but he strikes me as someone who in the end will make the right decisions, I have faith in Obama trusting his instincts.
