Anyone have any positive or negative experiences with Skype? I just downloaded it and had some weird experiences... men messaging and begging and it was very not attractive.

Am I missing something? Is it better to meet people, say on Lit, and then move to Skype?

Help me out here! Give a newbie some pointers!

Skype has much better voice quality than the telephone. But it anchors you to your computer. Generally many people only go to voice chat when they have established some interest, relationship and trust with the other party, as it's a level of deeper intimacy. I'm very careful who I give my skype address to.

I'm a big, big fan of Skype, finding it a much safer way to have phone sex. Not having to give out a home or cell phone number is a big plus in my book.
If you have had some problems with Skype, I suggest you just change your Skype privacy settings. There, you can change your preferences to receive calls only from the people you know (or want to know better *wink*).

I've never had a positive experience with Skype. I found it to be a waste of space and time. After setting up to chat, they would randomly just sign off after the initial greeting. I'm used to this for regular chat, but it's even more annoying once you involve voice.

I only use skype professionally at work, and it works fine there.

Iv'e never tried meeting people through it though.

It's a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) program, it's got a pretty decent webcam function as well. One of the best voice chat programs I've used.

Skype's cam quality is outstanding, and the voice quality is much better than YIM, however it IS very odd to get random requests from guys on there. Especially when you know they don't know the first thing about you. Good luck with Skype, I've had some great times on there.

I often use Skype at work when supporting international customers, quality is good.

Far too bandwidth intensive to use at home. Here in the last stop before hell freezes over, high speed has yet to visit

I downloade Skype but I don't know anyone else who has it. I certainly have not received any urgent begging messages, but I am open to that. I don't even know how that would happen. Is there a list of people who are logged on or Skype chatrooms. Don't people have to know your name to finid you? It is very quiet on my end.

I had Skype for about a week, there were no instructions, no this is what to do, I couldn't find any chat rooms, I got some messages from people i didn't know and had no interest in. It was a wierd experience..to say the least. Until I get a better feel for it I will stick with the Y.

I log in and hear the chat chime three or four times a minute with spam bots. Ugh. I block 'em but they keep comin'
