So we own another cat.

How sweet. Saving that poor lil' kittykat. :rose:

We have had three cats adopt us over the years, and an equal number we rescued.

The last one lived 20 yrs. Not bad for a cat.

They are wonderful companions. :D

My parents think I'm nuts, but, yeah, the kids get it :)

(current count 5 cats, 1 small terrier - only 2 of this batch were intentional pets, the rest found us)

I think I may stop counting.

We do feed many strays that we never plan to adopt. I know we're just a stop on their feeding schedule - they have other options.

But this kitty? She had nowhere else to go.
You sound like me! :)

We took in the terrier when he was dumped on the neighbours as a tiny pup - their Maltese tried to eat him.
And the two latest cats were abandoned little kittens in the middle of summer at a picnic area. They would've died if we hadn't taken them home.

All the cats round here seem well looked after, least we've not picked up any here. Back in an old house we had two. Monty was never our cat, but he came for food and wolud let me (and only me) pet him. Once he wasn't a well cat at all and he snuggled up on the sofa for a whole night with me then left in the morning. He brought Charlie along, a little black and whit cat, very young and sweet and loving. He became our cat for a short while before he headed for kittyheaven. We're saps too, any one or anything in need and we do all we can to help.

Good on you and congrats on the new addition ;)

That's sweet. It's hard to refuse an animal in need for us too.

One of our cats is an adopted stray, she was about nine months old when we saw her walking up our driveway. She didn't act like a typical stray either; when I followed her to make sure she wasn't going to go into the garage, she turned around, saw me, and sat down instead of bolting. Then she followed me into the backyard, and we sat down on the deck and she rubbed on us. We noticed at that point how thin she was, but I was surprised at how clean and soft her fur was given that she's a medium-hair. My husband went in to get some cat food and when he set it down, she pounced on it and ate it ALL within about three minutes. Then she was back to rubbing on us.

When we decided it was time to go in she tried to follow and we initially didn't let her because we had two other cats at the time and we didn't know what she might have been carrying. But she wouldn't let up; she sang and sang and sang at the back door (she's got a remarkably musical voice) until we gave up and let her in...we shut her downstairs until we knew it was safe for her to mingle with the other two.

So then we had three. But now we only have two again.

Own? LoL, you no more own a cat than you do your children. :D They love you and need you, but would never call you owner/master. My second was also a saved-from-the-brink-of-death-as-a-helpless-kitten and now she's fifteen, and is the sweetest (but most possessive of me) cat I have ever had the joy of knowing.

Anyway, enjoy the new friend.

We peacefully (and sometimes not so peacefully) coexist with our felines. I cannot remember being in a home without a cat - ever.

But in the cat family hierarchy, hubby and I are alpha. We understand how the pride works. ;)

Yup yup We be alpha Kitties... :)
All three of mine are rescues -
and any critters that come along get rescued too :) some times of the two legged variety as well.
Good ON you Darling:kiss::cattail:

One of these days we'll read a story posted on FARK about a lady and her family and the two hundred and fifty cats in a small house in Kansas.

Softy! :rose:

Aww, Sarahh!

We're feeding... Ummm... twelve. Seven prefer to sleep indoors, three live in the yard and environs and come for mealtimes, two we chase back down the street to the house where their owner used to live-- we bring their food to them, but they would really love to move in with us, I feel so bad for them. :(

We trap and neuter one or two strays (or maybe not strays, but if I catch 'em, in they go) per season. We get the service for free, from a group here.
