Recently in Hungary, a burglar out on the prowl, climbed the fence of what he considered to be a prime target in a posh area of Budapest, only to be confronted by fencing of a different sort.

Virgine Ujlaky, 23, of the Olympic Fencing team was practicing her swordplay when she saw Pal Nagy, 43, climb in through the window of her house. She deftly pinned him up against the wall with her sword at his throat while she rang police.

The thief was later treated for symptoms of shock.

"The Love Shack" - which the B52's recorded their hit music video for the song titled, "The Love Shack" in burned down in December of 2004. The old cabin was said to have been the original Love Shack, and was reported to have been where the B-52's created 'Rock Lobster'.

Every time "The Love Shack" song comes on I report this fact to anyone standing within earshot. No one cares - really, I know it's shocking. But it is my one bit of trivia.

Imagine how you would feel if people started calling you on the phone to find out whether or not you were dead or actually still alive!

This was the shock experienced by one 71 year old man by the name of Andy Lees in the UK recently.

On the advice of calls made to his house to determine his 'living and breathing status', he visited a cemetery in Blackburn to find that his headstone had indeed been erected with all his details on it except for an actual death date.

As it turns out, Mr Lees was given 6 months left to live by his doctors and so he set about planning and paying up front for his funeral and grave site so as not to burden his living relatives with the task.

The funeral company in their over-eagerness took it a step too far by having the grave plotted out and the headstone made up and installed in the cemetery. They have since apologised to Mr Lees for their stupendous oversight

Only one bit of trivia? I suspect you have a couple more at least. Confess :caning: :rose:

If you toss a penny 10000 times, it will not be heads 5000 times, but more like 4950. The heads picture weighs more, so it ends up on the bottom.

And this why, ladies and gentlemen, one should NEVER piss off a Hungarian woman. She was kind... :D

Contrast to what some people believe , the longest animal in the world is not the blue whale nore the giant squid. It is infact a worm. The bootlace worm has been known to grow to 60 metres(200feet).

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.

This thread is delicious! I have spent the past hour reading it! I thought I might repay the favor with - trivia :)

All of Albert Einstein's clothes (shirts, ties, pants etc) were the same. He felt his time was too valuable and didn't want to waste it choosing different combinations.

Tell a man there are 4 billion stars in the sky and he'll believe you, but put a wet paint sign up and he'll need to touch it to make sure

Carrageenan is a common ingredient in ice cream and toothpaste. Carrageenan is seaweed. A purple, edible seaweed, also known as Irish moss, that's found along the coasts of Northern Europe and North America. It's used as a suspending agent in foods, pharmaceuticals and liquids, as a clarifying agent for beverages, and in controlling crystal growth in frozen confections.

And N.B. - Irish moss pie is really really good....

The steam engine was not invented as most people believe in the 1800's, but was infact invented in Egypt around AD 64 by the mathermatician and geometer Heron. It was called aelopile or "wind ball" and worked on the same priciple as jet propulsion. A steam driven metal ball was spun around at 1,500 rpm Saddly no one saw ant practical use for the thing and it was treated as only a toy. The other sad thing is the train was invented just 700 years earlier by Periander the tyrant of Corinth. It was called the Diolkos. It ran 4 miles across the isthmus of Corinth in Greece. It was used to move cargo from ships as a short cut between the Aegean and Ionian seas. It was used for 1,500 years but fell into disrepair around AD 900 and totally forgoten untill the 1400's.

OH and Heron also invented the vending machine. For 4 drachmas you would get a shot of holy water in a portable device so on else could drink the hard payed for drinky.

Those where some clever guys back in the day don't you think?

The saying "it's so cold out there it could freeze the balls off a brass monkey" came from when they had old cannons like ones used in the Civil War. The cannonballs were stacked in a pyramid formation called a brass monkey. When it got extremely cold outside they would crack and break off... Thus the saying.
