When will it stop itching?

So, I haven't shaved in a week. Mostly because I've had the flu so bad the effort required seemed absurd (reading Lit posts was a challenge!). Anyway, now that I already have a week's growth I'm thinking against about trying to grow a beard. But it's started itching, and now that I'm coherent the itching is annoying. When does it stop itching? I've been shaving my head for months, and that's grown out for the same amout of time and it feels silky smooth.

Also, it doesn't look good. Sigh, it's even a bit embarrassing because my moustache is actually kind of blondish. So that's the other question, how long does it have to get before it goes from rebellious unwashed teenager to something resembling a real beard.

It changes with mood. My beard stopped itching after about a month. And then right before I shaved it off it itched again. It was like my face was being burned by acid. It just felt warm all of the time. Uncomfortably warm.

And my beard never looked good, so I really can't answer the second half.

Mine looked good after about four weeks but it never felt good to the wife. And once it got longer that six weeks it didn't even look good. So I shaved it back off. Did wonders for the love life.

It stops itching sometime in the second week of growth, in my experience.

I'll go along with that. I grow mine in the middle of Sept. and shave at Easter every year for the last 17. Before that I rarely shaved except for one 4 year job that had stoneage grooming rule. So I have about 2/3 of the last 35 years experience. After the first week switch to shampoo, I always do my face and hair together.

When I've grown a beard, it stops itching after about a month. :eek:Thats about the time it starts to look like a beard, rather than an unshaven face.

Can't help you on the itching question.

However, beards look better with a trim from a professional barber/hairstylist.

Once it gets shaggy, go get your hair cut and have them trim the beard to match the hair.

As for making us women happy, beards are very masculine, for obvious reasons. If you can keep the hair off of your lips (so it doesn't interfere with kissing) and keep the hair from scratching us, you might find that a woman gets turned on by it.

Sure, it depends on the woman, but I love my husband with a beard. He looks very - Viking with one.

BTW: in addition to shampooing, use some conditioner on your beard. That may help make it less scratchy for your lady.
