1) Cheap ass candles - seriously, the cheaper, more softer candles are best. The melt better with less burn. The last time Master and I were together, I bought a box of 12 sabbath candles for 99 cents. They were almost an inch thick and worked fairly well. Amazingly enough, my lavendar vanilla travel candle from Bath an Body works felt the best when poured on the skin and the oil in the wax softened my skin.
2) start off high and work your way lower until you reach the point that the bottom can no longer tolerate it
3) I've heard baby oil first helps taking it off... havent tried that, but I enjoy the tug and pull of peeling it off
4) get either a tarp or old sheet to place under the person

Not sure of your experience level, so here is some unsolicited but maybe needed advice...

* Don't use beeswax. It burns too hot and will burn skin in a nonerotic way

* The darker the candle dye, the hotter it will burn. Start out with plain white pillars and work your way up to coloured.

* Paraffin Baths are excellent for wax play. They are about $30 at walmart or less.

* Put down a sheet or something before you play. Much easier on cleanup.

* The closer you hold the candle/wax to the skin, the hotter it will hit. Start high and get closer as your partner gets used to the sensations.

* Waxplay is awesome when combined with other sensation play...ice cubes, knives to scrape the wax off, paddles to spank it off, etc.

* Blindfolds take away the ability to react prematurely and really keep it interesting, at least for me.
