Seriously folks, I'm not trying to be a jerk.

Do you do Yoga/Pilates? Which one? Why? What do you feel that you gain from it?

If you're Dominant, would you consider making such an activity mandatory for a submissive? Why?

Do you, however you identify yourself, find that yoga and/or pilates helps you in the Lifestyle? Do you feel that it helps you to be a better PYL/pyl? Why? How?

Please don't tell me you didn't want the other 2 threads removed as they are now gone!!

I do Pilates :) I try to make one class a week although due to time constraints I haven't been able to get there for a couple of weeks now

I've found it helps me deal with stress (that hour of controlled breathing and movement helps me focus on ME). I've noticed my tummy is flatter, and my core strength has improved along with pelvic floor control. Most of all, the intermittent lower back pain I used to get from time to time, especially with standing for long periods, has completely gone.

I haven't noticed it having any other effect re the Lifestyle, but I'm definitely calmer and more relaxed after a class :)

I dont do either of them. However I am at the gym for 90 min - 2 hours 3-4 times a week with 40 min of aerobics and weight training the rest of the time. I have found that not only has it helped with the weight loss, but the weight training has helped with my flexibility and my endurance.

My Domme suggested Yoga as part of my physical therapy routine, now that most of the repairs are done. I have one more major surgery in the early summer to remove some extraneous hardware. I can't do a lot right now, so it seems like I'm just doing half poses and holding and breathing while everyone else stretches. But since my class is geared towards injury repair and recovery, I sort of fit in. ;) She recommended Yoga as a medical professional rather than a D/s thing.

It doesn't make me feel very calm. It actually frustrates me, since I can't do what I used to do and I wonder if I'll ever get anywhere close to what I used to be able to do. And there's stuff like being able to feel/hear my ankle clicking around when I move it that I find upsetting. As far as relaxation and stress relief, my massage directly after Yoga does that for me.

I've taken a handful of yoga classes in the past few years and have loved it.

So, does it count that I want to be doing yoga regularly, but can't afford to?? The main reasons I want to do it is because of the stress relief/management and the flexibility. Yay better bondage positions!!

I can't afford to go to classes, either... so I bought myself a yoga DVD and a pilates DVD, both by GAIAM. I've always found their dvds to be quality, and they offer options throughout the routines, in case you can't do the full stretch (as the woman leading them is a rubber band of a thing).

You can get them through AVON right now, for $12.99 each (I got mine recently through avon, for that price, CAD).

I did the yoga one today... it's only a short one, meant to start your day with, but there's a second program on the DVD, created especially for women during their menstrual cycle, or during very stressful times of the month... which I did after the first one. It helped, immensely.

i do niether but i dance and i find it very theraputec.... except when im cursing my shoulder for not working properly

That doesn't work for me. First of all, I live with flatmates right now and feel like an utter knob doing it in front of them, as they're older and don't keep up with the times. The guy would take one look at me and ask in a really offensive tone, "What the hell are you doing?" or something similar. I'm not willing to put myself in that situation. The second reason is I simply never do it if it's on my time terms. I have horrible self control when it comes to my spare time and always think that I can do it later. If I had a class I'd have that specific time - I have to go or not get to do it. And I never feel like a fool when I have a whole roomful of people doing it with me :D

Well, I do a lot of exorcises. Although I don’t do either of theses. Instead I do the spiderman and a few other gymnastic sort of moves to gain speed, flexibility, and strength.

A sub I would definitely force to work out if she was not already. I would let her pick whatever she wants, along with a good heaping of cardio. If she no longer cared or was willing to work for her appearance I would be very disappointed/angry.

No I don’t want her to look like Barbie, I’m realistic and know there are different body types, but she at least has to keep up with my jogs or I’m locking her in a dungeon gym till she can.

Getting the body moving is very important. If you want proof just go to the zoo and compare those animals to the ones you see on them nature shows.

LOL....I absolutely hate jogging, but will happily go and work out at the gym. It's air conditioned and under cover, so I can work out when it's stinking hot, freezing cold or raining. Jogging=hard limit ;)

I need to do some core work. I'm just really lazy about it. I find Pilates easier than yoga. I even have one pilates dvd just for the butt. But my sub is already jealous of my ass.

I've been doing yoga for years, can't sleep without it.

I plan to get into Pilates.

I'm also into tai chi and such, but it has been a while sinec I practiced.

I do both yoga and pilates. I also do bellydancing.

I originally started yoga and pilates in order to deal with a herniated disc in my spine. My physical therapist started me on many yoga poses. in time, we added pilates to the mix. I was really good about keeping up with it for nearly 3 years, until I moved to a smaller place after leaving my husband.

I have gotten back into it in the last two months and included bellydance. My company has free yoga and pilates classes that you can take. On a rare occasion, I have the opportunity to go (I'm a single Mom and have to make arrangements for my son).

I do it mainly in the evenings now to help with stress from day to day. I feel better, and I sleep better. Mostly, it's maintenance for my back problem. Oh, and not to mention, I look hawt. ;)

I suffered a herniated disk as well... but I couldn't do things like pilates or yoga. Too much twisting, etc... and my problem is that ALL of my joints are hyperflexible... so our goal for a while was to immobilize my back to keep it from slipping around... doing these exercises strengthens the core, but if I'm moving wrong already, they'll strengthen around a situation that shouldn't be happening.

I have scoliosis, a "hinge" (an anomoly in my back that's actually made it into textbooks), degenerative disk disease, and have herniated a disk... which exploded before it herniated. I have permanent nerve damage in my left leg from it.

I used to do yoga often... but stopped for some reason. Now I'm starting again... I really enjoyed yesterday, and plan to switch between yoga and pilates.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about all the back problems! I have degenerative disc disease - the disc that herniated (L5) is completely without fluid.

We only did exercises at first that strengthened my stomach muscles. Then, we changed and added only back muscles. No twisting.

I wasn't allowed to twist for a very long time. So, I only worked front and back.

I can tell if I haven't exercised in two weeks (yes, that's the longest I go without exercising).

Do you do the cobra pose? plank also helps with core strength. I also do a "puppy" pose with is a modified downward facing dog. Bridge pose, and child's play are among the ones that I always resort to if I feel any pain.

Part of the problem, is that my abdominal muscles (under their layer of... insulation...) are ridiculously strong. Under all the fat, I have an extremely muscular body- I used to be a weight lifter and weight-lifting coach. It's the loose joints that have caused injury many times... but also saved me from injury, as well.

I remember once, I hyper-extended my right knee by 45 degrees. Nothing broke. Nothing snapped. Nothing tore. Things stretched a bit, and I was on crutches for six months... but that was the worst of it. My right arm dislocates on command... I can turn my knees almost all the way around *as in, I can grab my foot, and twist the lower part of my leg until it is pointing up, and even farther to the side*...

*shrug*

I did pilates today, for the first time. I mean, I've done some poses, now and then, but I did a full program today.

I feel awesome. It's only a 30 minute program... but god, it worked parts of me that I'd forgotten existed... even as I sit here, I'm sitting straighter, and my abs are tight, which feels great.

Now to go fuck my honey, and then go for a long walk on the beach.

agreed. i think i would be happy loecked up in the gym. especially if i hsd some good music or a movie or tv to play in the backround (no background noise really gets to me). i really hate jogging though.

Ah hem, you two are really gonna hate me then, cause a dungeon gym is a real place. It’s where bulky men with too much testosterone punch, kick, and murder things until their sweat perforates the un air-conditioned, windowless concrete cube they are in. Basically, it’s where you go if you have a death wish, but if you make it out alive you will be as lean as a fighting bull.

Anyway I found a video of a the spiderman, it’s a really good exorcise, gets you strength, flexibility, and cardio. If you get good at it you can do it in one spot without moving across the floor, add a few other things in and it’s a serious workout.

Punching, kicking and murdering? I like the sound of that, really - I love the boxing moves my trainer puts me through, and would love to try kickboxing too!

As for murdering....does my ex husband count? Pretty please....:cattail:

You made me laugh so hard I cried. Ok, you are now an honorary member of the dungeon gym association. Just don’t make those bulky men feel bad because you can take more pain.

PS. I’ll be sending you a PM about kickboxing.
