Thank you sweetheart, we can do with all the luck we can get.

All our friends are convinced she'll walk it, cos she's a smart cookie, but...it's very much a matter of potluck, as I said, which questions she gets. If there are loads on percentages of immigration groups, statistics, etc., it's going to be hard.

Give it a go, see how you fare.

so if you have permanent residency already for 10 years do they make you take test as well when you send in for the new one?

If you have permanent residency, that's it for life. You never have to 'send in for a new one' as far as I'm aware. The visa granted is for 'Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK'. That's it.

The actual words from the Border and Immigration site:

Indefinite leave to remain (often known as ILR) is permission to stay permanently (settle) in the United Kingdom, free from immigration control.

Once she has that, we can move on to other things, such as a joint mortgage. No point in applying at the moment, as no company in their right mind is going to consider giving a mortgage to someone who currently only has leave to stay here until October this year.

I sympathise, Mat. I have to do mine within the following year as well. But at the moment I'm having more issues with my visa than just that.

I don't have a mood today. I'm tired. And I have a thousand and one things to do. But it's storming outside and I just wanna nest and sleep and read and drink tea.

Morning, sweetie

I'm tired too. I wanna come over and drink tea with you.

Are you talking about a renewed passport and visa? That's different. But you do have to pay, around £160 I think....check out the site.

Transfer of visa to a new passport - form NTLOC

Postal application: £160
Application in person at public enquiry office: £500

It's going to cost us £750 for Min's application to stay here permanently. Ouch!!

Application for permanent residence
Husband, wife, civil partner, or unmarried or same sex partner - form SET (M):

Postal application: £750
Application in person at public enquiry office: £950

I still don't get why it costs £200 more to attend in person, you'd think it would be easier, could answer all enquiries then and there.

Ooops, tea. you just reminded me. Time to take coffee to the wife.

Later, lovelies.

*hugs* to all. :rose:

Morning everyone, I'm feeling kinda sluggish today, I feel like I haven't slept enough when i know I actually did -weird.

Nope. I do need to do that though as I have a new passport. Atm instead of spending the money to get it transfered i carry both passports with me. Bit of a pain in the ass as I have to carry both uk and us passports for the munchkin as well.

I checked my passport and the visa does say indefinite leave to enter the uk. But it does have a valid until 2014 on it. Maybe I'll just have to pay for a new visa to be put in the passport

I have no idea. I didn't even realise they put a date on it. Must look into that, especially in light of the quotation I made above, which specifically says, with no immigration controls.

Coffee? She'd fail if she expressed a preference for coffee.

The English drink TEA. The crooked little finger is optional. ;)

Seriously, she's going to sail through the test. I sponsored my Finnish dentist. He studied almost as hard as he had for his finals and then found the actual questions very easy.

We need her - if only to keep Mat in line.

Tired. Not in as good a mood as I was earlier. The kids go to their dad's tomorrow so I have a crazy weekend to look forward to.
Except I'm really tired. And I want someone to be nice to me for a little bit.

* Hugs * :rose:

I don't think knackered is a mood, but that is how I feel, but at least half of my kitchen is sparkly organised now :D

upset that I can't sleep past 7:00, even when I really want to, and I was having such great dreams too.

I can't decide on a mood -- so I guess my mood is indecisive. Wait! I just decided I'm indecisive. Ergo, I can't be indecisive.

I'm tired. Kung fu class on Thursday plus shoveling snow this morning has left my muscles all worn and sore :(

But I'm leaving for Atlantic City in 90 minutes, so all will be well :D
