Should an author tell the exact size of a man's member?

Do you like it when the author describes a man's cock size in inches?

When you are reading an erotic story do you like it when the author describes a male character’s cock size in inches? Would you like it better if it was left up the readers imagination or do you want to know every detail?

I prefer it be left to imagination and I always skip measurements.

When I write I always leave it up the the imagination, but I read so many stories that don't. I have wondered if readers like to read that info.

Measurements should only be used if it's vitally important to the story (and I can't think of an instance where it would be).
It's a lazy way of writing, much the same as using bra cup sizes as descriptors for women's tits.

Instant back click for me.

As has been hashed elsewhere, I think there's another instance when measurements are appropriate--if you are writing in the first person, and it would be in character for the narrator character to throw out measurements, then measurements are appropriate (and there are loads of character types who do bandy about measurements in real life). Otherwise, it's usually best to try to make readers place themselves in one of the character roles--which would suggest giving as little specific detail as you can and still carry the story along.

So many people use measurements to describe women because it is easier, mostly done by men. Most readers think it is so much sexier to describe a woman with words not numbers, though most of the writers use numbers.

I can think of no instance where doing measurements would be good except when buying lingerie and need to get dimensions, or a bunch of guys in the communal showers commenting on one guy who is really long. Course right after that I would like the guys to take turns trying to swallow it the deepest but well just me, at least in this thread. ;)

Otherwise, keep numbers out of the damn story and be descriptive. I'd much rather read about how he has a thick long hard cock preparing to shoot a hot load than how he has a 13 inch long 4 inch wide cock.

No, I don't want to read about the size of a male character's cock in inches. In general, reading about the size of a man's cock, in inches, adds absolutely nothing to a story.

I was guilty of including male measurements in my first stories, but I don't do it any more.

That's not to say that I wouldn't do it again, if it added a unique element to a particular story. But, as a general practice, it's more information than the reader needs, or wants, to know.

Nope, measurements are a complete and utter turn off for me...I can't visualise much at all just from a figure.

It is a "no" for me as well. I also don't like reading about people's weights - "He was 6'1" and 210lbs" or "she was 5'2" and 120lbs"... just say he's tall and strapping, and she's petite and let's move on to the part where they are naked.

I'd never say never, but for the most part I agree with everyone against numerical measurements. Except for maybe a few situations it is all completely irrelevant and makes the story feel heavy handed. Besides, my gf turns me on to no end, but I couldn't tell you any of her measurements, so they can't be that important.

If the size is relevant to the story at all (which is rare but possible), I feel that it is better described in terms of amusing analogies. Such as:

"Her eyes were wide as saucers as she stared at his huge member, jutting out from his crotch like a Louisville Slugger."

"His miniature cock hung limply between his legs, looking for all the world like a dead mouse."

The same would go for breast sizes too, of course.......Carney (or would that be a "simile"? or is it a "metaphor"?)

Generally the answer is a solid "NO!" However, if the size is an integral part of the plot some indication should be alright. The gigantic, rampaging penis to cummed all over Philidelphia could be described as

"Huge, almost as long as the Washington Monument is tall" or maybe, "That sucker is as long as a freight train."

However anything shorter than either of those is simply pure vanity and we don'w want to hear/see/read it.

I'm a man and, No I want it left up to my imagination

I have talked to many women and it is different for each one. What size fits and gives pleasure is different.

One lady friend says she loves her 5" dildo and doesn't want anything bigger...Another friend she was with a large gentlmen before her current lover and says she enjoys both for different reasons.

A description without saying size let's a mind wonder to the perfect size for the lover. In the threads I have written I never had a woman ask for a size in the physical description and when they described their perfect male that wasn't in their either.

Just my two cents...in Erotica it is fun to let the mind run wild.

I think that stating the size of a man's cock cheapens the story, just like I think describing a woman's breasts by her cup size cheapens the story. For instance, "Then I pulled down his shorts to reveal his throbbing 8-inch cock..." makes me wonder why the author assumed that the readers all like 8-inch cocks. Some people want guys more average sized, some want huge guys...it takes away from the images I was forming when I read something like that.

I like reading things like, "...and then I slid myself down the length of his long, hard cock until he was completely buried inside me," or, "He gently cupped my milky-white breasts in his hands, each one slightly bigger than he could grasp," or something to that effect. In the former example, a reader is free to imagine whatever length cock will turn them on the most. Same with the breasts...I haven't said how big the hero's hands are and so she might have small breasts and she might have larger breasts, again, leaving it up to the reader to imagine whatever turns them on the most.

The size of the average member described on Lit is about 50% larger than the average size of the real people writing the stories, anyway. So who cares?

Sure, include the measurements - in the scene where she gets out the tape measure and they both giggle like children over the ridiculousness of what they're doing. Likewise, bra size is highly relevant when discussing ladies' underthings but not when describing the contents of those underthings.

Maybe it's just me, I don't have a head for measurements anyway. You tell me it's a 9" member and I have no clue unless I actually refer to a ruler. Tell me it's so long that stacking each hand on top of the other in traditional batting stance isn't enough to fully enclose it and I can understand that.

I like to include the scene where they get out the vernier calipers, too.

Inches is just length. And not very precise at that. If you want exact size, you'll need to write it in cubic nanometers. And then add aspect ratio and curvature in arc degrees.
