Republican Party Meltdown. Nothing Left But Scared Old White Men.

Al Sadr extended the ceasefire which means that casualties in Iraq will remain low.
That takes the Iraq war off the front page. If the economy can hold together for a little while longer, the Republicans will have a good climate going into election season.
Even if all that happens, it's too late at this point.

The Republicans can't wash off the blame that's been laid on them for things like lack of equipment for the troops, the fact that we got into this economic mess to begin with, and so on.

The Dems can fuck up, though. It's all theirs to lose

and both parties have managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory before.

The issue isn't party or canidate platforms. Elections are not won or lost over platforms. It's personality. Who do you like? Who do you trust? If you think Carter, Reagan, Bush, or Clinton won or lost because of party platforms you don't understand the process.
Ham bone claims to run a business. I know this is bullshit because he is totally clueless about the concept of sales: it's not the steak, it's the sizzle.

And the sizzle is strong with Obama and Clinton. Fo' shizzle.

I think it's going to be very close.
McCain may bug true conservatives, but he appeals to a lot of middle of the road democrats and old school democrats who might have voted LBJ.
I wouldn't say this race is the Dems to lose, far from it.

Exactly. Carter was calling for energy independence back in the 70's. Wear a sweater, explore alternative energy sources, conservation, etc. But he was dour, haggarded, and tired. Reagan however was upbeat, positive, and ripped the solar panels off the Whitehouse as soon as possible.

Now looking back which was the best policy for the nation? Energy independence or whoring our economy to the oil companies and middle east despots? Was that decision made on careful consideration of the canidates policies and platforms or the happy, smiley, personality of Reagan vs the baggy eyed and somber Carter?

So, lets get this right, you Dems have Obama and Hillary to rep you! now just think about these two! I mean is it me or what! Hillary has nothing to do but seek power and Obama doesn't even know what the hell he is doing! I have no doubt that if pressed he would even admit he has no fucking clue how to run a a country! Well and Hillary just wants to be able to tell her fuckwad of a husband,,, see I can do it too!

It's a sad commentary on the state of collective human intelligence.

Rush Limbaugh once called it the cult of style over substance - pity that he is so often convicted by his own term.

You should really restrict your comments to things you know about....like scat and dog porn videos.

LOL!

Damn.

I haven't witnessed such wishful thinking since my eight grade Spanish teacher sat on top of her desk in her mini skirt!:D

What ever makes you guys sleep better at night.

That Idiot McCain probably will win and you can spend the next four to eight years tearing him down.

But he will STILL be in office...God help us all.

What's the color of the sky in your world?

Democratic turn out is breaking records. Republicans are doomed.

So you say. Then again, I'd not really expect you to say differently. The Democrats could be running a hunk of month-old bleu cheese and you'd say it was going to win the election.

It probably would, given the formidable opposition...

We need no pity we will be responsible for the next 8 years!

I only ask you one question, Tell us what the Dems offer to change anything?

Universal healthcare.

That seems to be a diminishing prospect though.

Instead of Hillary's universal healthcare it seems that you'll be getting another happy little clown that does nothing but look adorable in tightly scripted TV slots.

Guess the Dems can't criticise the Reps for voting Bush any more.

That truth says more about the Reps than it does the Dems.

The sad part is it would win against a Republican.

Even so, I'm hoping Ron Paul runs as a "true conservative" third party candidate. Muhahahahahah!

The Dems will win because McCain is a war whore and the Republicans are not going to vote for someone who will draft their kids.

I've got bad news on that front.

Unless something dramatic happens to change the current world situation we are going to need a lot more soldiers. And I don't see anyway to accomplish this without a draft. Sometime in the next decade or so. Probably only five years out.

Say hello to the second civil war if that happens.

The draft resistors of the 60s taught important lessons to the resistors of the future: the country took pause with the firestorms of nonviolent protests. There's no question this time that many draft resisters will be armed and will not hesitate to shoot it out (hell, they shoot it out over lesser things). A few high profile ambushes of draft enforcement/military on turf highly familiar to domestic insurgents and you have effectively lit off a ton of firecrackers at the proverbial gas station: others will become opportunistic and exploit the swelling chaos and some random person will target a draft-related person's family. That gets on television and then mass demoralization occurs. Plus others get excited and join in on the shooting matches and ambushes.

This basically becomes a chain reaction situation of armed mini-revolts and "revolt-justified" thrill killing (and these people tend to kill at random because the chaos can hide them) that leads to the military finding themselves woefully outnumbered by citizens who know better than anyone how to deal with them both physically and psychologically.

A draft should be done after guns are outlawed. Not until.

I don't want a draft. I don't know anyone who wants a draft. I also don't know anyone who would think it a good idea if a standing US Corp were destroyed in the field. The future looks pretty craptastic.

I'm crazy to dip my toes in the deep end here, but I'm gonna brave it anyway.

I don't think McCain does appeal to a lot of "middle of the road Dems." It's not just that he's old, but he represents "more of the same," and I think the majority of people in the U.S. are sick and tired of the same old, same old. When you think of McCain saying that the war in Iraq could go on for another hundred years, that is depressing as hell. It's costing us a fortune in tax dollare and human lives, every day.

Contrast that to Obama's positive message and slogan of Stand for Change. Add the fact that Obama is one hell of a public speaker, very charismatic. Clinton had that mojo, and it propelled him to the White House despite reported sexual shenanigans. Obama seems to be as clean as a politician can be. McCain on the other hand, has had some pretty hard-hitting news reports surface that he had a romantic liason with a lobbyist and that he may have used his position to do favors for her (or her clients).

I think people across the board want something fresh and new. McCain is old as dirt and about as exciting. Hilary is extremely competent at politics but she would be too divisive as president because so many people just hate her guts. I think Obama has more than a decent chance of winning the whole enchilada, by a good margin.

Astute observations.
