Can you believe this?

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/01/24/us.pakistan/index.html

Is there anybody home in the Pentagon??/

I thought there was a 2 war limit at any one time.... Maybe we should win or lose one of those first before we go fight another one....

Oh.... And a show of hands!!! How many think we want to have anything to do with fighting a fucking war in Pakistan?? We haven't pissed off enough people in Iraq and Afghanistan?? We want to piss off another 165 million more???

Oh I know it 's only "training".... Now where have I heard that one before?

Hmmmm.

Unbelievable. Is it January 20th, 2009 yet? Can we just kind of skip ahead a year or so?? We can just thank God Musharraf is not THAT stupid. I hope.

But perhaps this is only a cagey plot to make Musharraf look good. He will loudly reject the proposal and lambast the offer. And this, in turn, will make him look with the Pakastani people! Nothing goes over better there than US bashing! And we like Musharraf! Tricky.....

Naaaah. We are not that clever.

Who do you think youre fooling? If Obama or Hillary is President when the war starts you'll be their #1 cheerleader.

My first question is "Who are they going to send?"

The U.S. Armed forces are already severely over stretched. There's no more troops to send.

Unless they want to reintroduce the draft.

There are posters demanding Cheney's impeachment on campus. "If he gets what he wants and invades Iran, YOU will be drafted. Impeach Dick Cheney."

It's just too late. Palestine and Iraq have made it a lost cause. They will resist us if we don't do it, and resist us for doing it.

If we are planning to pull an Axis and take over the whole area, then we will have to draft. No question.

Haven't we bungled it enough already? We created the mujahedin, we created the resistance to the Shah which the mullahs rode to power, we created the insurgents in Iraq, and we have meddled disastrously in Pakistan's politics. The more we back an increasingly out-of-control Israel, the more we shoot ourselves in the foot over there, too. These people have the judgment of a small squirrel.

Clinton ONE had no trouble finding places to involve the military.

I do wish you hadn't dredged up that Underaged Whatever It Was thread. Just sayin.

First Point - It's hard to believe that Bush would drag us into an open war in Pakistan since Musharif is his hand-picked guy and Musharif is having enough trouble holding onto power without us coming in an fucking him up.

Secont Point - Open your eyes, we already have people (unreported) on the ground in Pakistan hunting for al Quida. We have had them there off and on since 2003.

Final Point - Since there is not draft, where is he going to get the troops to send to Pakistan. About all that's left are Boy Scouts and Postal Workers. That would be good press for the GOP. :D

Um. Saddam was America's 'friend' once upon a time. Didn't stop the Shrubbies from fucking him up the ass when they thought it would further their power.

"I have a cunning plan," said Felipe Calderon to his Cabinet. "If we start lots of trouble in Iraq and the 'stans', we can sneak across the border while them good ol' boys are off fighting."

"Bueno, El Presidente," answered the Minister of De Fence. "I'll get Los Hombres loosening de fence poles in readiness for the invasion."

Oh my god. The US Secretary of Defence appears to be intimating that a sovereign state is incapable of policing its own people and that the US would be glad to send their forces into that sovereign state's land and take over the things that the US considers it is handling badly.

This is why the USA has to send fewer Christmas cards each year.

Second point, The people we now have in Pakistan are not in uniform. And for very good reason. They are in an enclave that native people are not allowed into.

First point, the dude is not proposing war with Pakistan, but "training" missions in support of Pakistan. Open war with Pakistan is not the deal.

But the whole thing is offensive, provocative.

I can't imagine the US making any kind of overt invasion into Pakistan for a number of reasons. If anything is done, it would probably be a strike at Taliban and Al Qaeda sanctuaries across the border from Afghanistan, by
soldiers who are already there. It might already be going on. It would be kept strictly secret from anybody, except maybe Musharaff.

The Taliban and AlQaeda are basically interlopers anyhow, and an attack that killed a lot of them would be seen as a success, and maybe not such a bad thing by most of the population.

It is all so absurd I really think I had right.... perhaps we are just that clever.

If I was gonna do it I'd use biologics to depopulate the tribal areas and flush the game from his cover. I certainly wouldnt tell the world what I was doing.

The thread made me curious, so I got some books on the subject.

We're already in Pakistan chasing bad guys. In fact the whole border area is a former country called Pashtunistan. The Brits abolished it over a century ago, but the folks still run the place for all intents and purposes.

What America needs is a foreign legion to handle the cloak and dagger crap.

They bomb instead of go in. You have that right. I suppose you can keep from stretching thin if all you do is bomb. I think being bombed is going to seem like a bad thing, though, to anybody. We have people on the ground there. Plus I think Gates wasn't talking about the same thing you are.

If the book I'm reading is accurate, the US remains in Afghanistan because we're able to sustain the level of bribery that's needed to keep daggers in their sheaths. The money doesnt buy loyalty, and encourages treachery and deception.

Osama does the same. He bribes everyone with Saudi oil money.

The Pashtune's dont like Arabs or Americans, but the money is good.

I vote sending in the Boy Scouts! We could tell them that Pakistan is full of atheists and homosexuals.

This is why the USA has to send fewer Christmas cards each year.
:( It's why we're not getting any Xmas cards at all! Even you Brits just sent us an e-mail newsletter for the holidays. :(

The Boy Scouts have every right to association that swingers clubs do, and some gay organizations I know of.
