Active and Willing Editors, Chime In

Not sure about you, but it hurts when I see a flailng writer trying to seek help. Okay, so maybe watching for a few moments is fulfilling at some level, but at the end of the day you feel a compulsive need to help them.

Or not.

But as an editor, one of an editing corps (I hope), aren't we responsible to help those that need us most? I challenge all active editors to chime in so writer's know who to contact. Let this be the new list, since the old is not working.

Our colllective experience is great; share it. Brighten someone else's life.

Willing Editor

With only two modest stories posted on Lit, I'm not sure if I'm of the calibre to call myself an active editor - especially since I'm not sure how the program works. Although I have 'enrolled' in the program and received an official response from the 'gods' - as one other editor/writer called them - I'm unable to access the 'Editors List,' so I'm unable to see if my name is actually 'active.'

I would like to promote myself, somehow. Even to those newer writers like myself, with only a story or two posted. I am but a lowly Canadian, however, so I exist in a no-man's-land somewhere between the mighty US and the esteemed UK/British. My humble opinion is that we Canadians might just be the 'happy medium' between the two 'super powers.'

Personally, I'm in the same boat as Lady C: willing and active but currently drowning in a sea of overfilled and unwashed plates. What is the world coming to when real life gets in the way of editing erotica

If anyone thinks I am a suitable editor, please feel free to PM me for an email address. I prefer MSWord format, but I can handle most formats (except .docx from Vista Office).

Be aware that I am never on-line between 17:00 GMT (12:00 EST) Friday and 09:00 GMT (04:00 EST) Monday.

Turn-round for a 5000 word story should be one working day, more for longer stories, but may be two days if you need the reply in some really esoteric format.

I hope no one mind if I chime in with a suggestion or two.

The editor page is pretty daunting. I don't know if you looked recently but it's eleven pages long. Luckily there is a search function, although I've never tried and I'm not sure how effective it is.

Still, even with the search function you'll run into plenty of inactive or busy editors. Wouldn't it be a good idea if you could log on to your profile and turn on "busy", so prospective writers would see something like "This editor is currently busy and not accepting new work." You could also have the option of hiding "busy" results from the search.

Something that could be worth considering also is Editor's profiles turning idle if not logged on once every 30 days or so and turning back to active once you do log on. Writers wouldn't have to have to wade trough the inactive accounts to find the active ones, and editors wouldn't come back from vacation to a pile of outdated requests.

I beg to differ Snoop ... you have been reading documents from Office 2007 (It's not Vista Office, since I use xp pro and sent you things from said program.) It's all how the user saves the documents, as long as they use the compatibility mode, you can recieve it. Just thought you may have wanted to know that.

Both are good ideas; both are in use by at least one other online story site; both are suggested here about as often as it is suggested that stories being visible in multiple categories would be better.

One thing that is kind of discouraging as an editor is authors who ask for you to review their material and then never give you a reply back after you work on their story. It's happened more than once.
