I had the same thought after I made my first post. It just doesn't seem like something he would do. At least not unless he plans on turning it around somehow and saying, "See how none of you cared? You would have cared if I was a white female!" Or some crap like that. But even that is doubtful because I think he knows he'd never live it down.

But it could always really be his friend...playing a very cruel joke on him and us. I think something like that is the most likely answer. For some reason, I just always find it doubtful that a loved one would actually bother getting on a message board to let us know at a time like this. But whatever the answer, you're probably right. Better safe than sorry. I apologize for my first post.
