She is pretty sly. Make them wait two or three years. It will be Harry mania again.

oh my gosh what a shocker!!! Of course there will be more HP books.

BTW did you all like number seven?

She'll keep doing it too. Harry Potter will be one of those lifelong "Going out of Business" sales.

Or the 3rd farwell tour (until the next one).

It is bound to happen...BTW, is sad Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with beginning stages of Alzheimer's...he says he believes he can get a few more books out before he forgets what Discworld is and was.:rose:

that sucks good omens has brought me many a good laugh...he's always cheeky to the last bit isn't he?

Hopefully JKR doesn't go through with it and succumb to another harry potter series if she doesn't Hp will be a classic.(almost LOTR classic but for younger kids)

I think she should quit while she is ahead. The last book was the best of the series. I don't see how she could top it and I doubt she would.

After having read the article, it sounds like they listened to a pod cast, where she were in, and they were talking about the HP encyclopedia she have talked about writing.

Ok I am coming out of the closet. I really did not like the last book. I almost did not finish it. In fact a friend of mine and I hated it so much we put a BDSM twist on the book during a IM chat one night and it was better. :D

Oh please, people have been doing that for years. It's called fanfiction, and sometimes it really is better than the original.

Also: I really hope she doesn't try and continue the story. An encyclopedia, I could totally get into. But the story...no, please. It went out well enough.

Oh that's such a shame. I've loved the Discworld books for years. :(

I loved Harry Potter to but I can't help thinking it would be weird to revisit with a different core of characters. Harry's world is a workable premise for new characters though.

Can't say I'd bother with an encyclopaedia. I'm a fan, not a fanatic.

While I loved book 7, it wasnt my favorite. That is and will always be The Order of the Phoenix. But I did think it was too cleanly wrapped up.. poof you, you, you and you are dead.. poof he's dead.. yay..we're heroes.. now we're adults.. but I dont know what else I'd put in.

Confession....

I went to the library on campus one day during finals week and read the epilogue of the last book. I wanted to know who died but I had no desire to check the book out and read the whole dang thing so I cheated. :D

I have not read any Harry Potter or seen the movies....F has a couple of the books around here somewhere..perhaps I should try one.

In my reading of the article it sounds to me like they put more meaning into what she said than was intended. Personally it sounds to me like she thinks about in moments of weakness but has no intention of doing it. The byline is to sell papers

I hope she leaves the hole spectrum of Harry Potter forever now, she can of course do more with the mythology and they'll sell... But if she achieved what she wanted in those 7 books (Goblet of Fire is my favourite), why do more?

HUGE CONFESSION

i've never read a page of these fucking things.

Who is this supposed to surprise exactly?

ETA: I think she thinks about it mostly because it has been a part of her life for so long that it feel weird for it to be gone. That's my guess.

i started reading them around the 3 or so book. i'm the type of mom that likes to know what the hell is making my kid nuts. so i read them one by one. and i'm so ever glad i only bought the paper back editions. personally i thought it was crap writing, at the least the first one i thought was sooo awful!!, tho i did notice she improved in both technique and style with each book. so in the end i felt like i had contributed to her education. the last book i guess was a bit of a reward..i finally didn't have to pay for it anymore! tho if she comes out with anymore books..i'll at least have to get them for the kiddo. bleh. and of course for my own curiousity.

i was pissed that she killed my favorite character in all the novels..severus snape. with alan rickman playing him in the movies..he became the stuff of my fantasies! always loved his other works, but as snape he's so hawt :)
