An effective way of finding editors

First off, Hi! I'm Jet, and I'm new.

I've been writing on and off for the past 5 years, and I finally summoned up the courage to go "public" with my work. There is a problem though... I'm finding it incredibly difficult to find "any" editors/beta readers/etc.

Now, Literotica has a function to find editors, but I find it lacking, as nearly all of these people "last updated" years ago, and sending duplicate requests is a long and tedious process (750 potential people ), with so much effort being wasted on inactive people (I'm assuming there inactive, there's the possibility I could be mistaken of course.)

So, is there a forum or thread or something somewhere that could help me? I find I get discouraged and lose the will to write if I don't have some feedback from friends, but... I'm also kinda hesitant to send an Incest erotica to friends who know and speak with my family, heh, especially when some facts of the story could.. uh.. be true.. >_>'

Wow. Blushing red. :D

Aaaanywho. Basically, the more input I have from others, the better I write and the more often I write. I consider myself pretty fair at it, I AM a hopeless romantic after all ^^ On a scale of 1-100, I'd say my skills at storytelling are in the.. oh... 70 range. But if I were to say the same about grammar and the finer points in writing, that's probably somewhere in the 20's or 30's.

And while I can tediously edit my own work, I find myself stuck in a revision loop. Read story, correct grammar, change adjective, re-write sentence, re-write paragraph.... rewrite chapter. Go to step one. Over and over. And I get burned out.

Now, with friends/editors/beta readers, it goes like this. "Write story, send, receive input, change certain parts, finish." Not to mention the feedback and review I get from the story, which gives me some sorta strange writing... energy or something.

Gah. I'm ranting >.> This was suppose to be a simple post. Basically, I need a more effective way of finding editors, that would be great.

Thanks for the help ^_^

Try the Editors Forum. Post a thread there, giving some idea of what exactly you seek and what kind of story you write, make sure you have PMs enabled and wait.

Er... Right. Sorry, I looked and looked and it was staring me right in the face.

*sigh* Ah... Love being the stupid new guy...

Don't sweat it, we're a reasonably friendly lot (except for a couple who bite - the rest only bite if you like it ;))
Welcome to the nuthouse.

since AH is unmoderated, there is nothing stopping you from posting an item titled "I need an editor," and saying what you want and what type of story it is.

it would help if the posting sounded friendly and upbeat, not like an extended complaint and disquisition on the unfairness of life.

The Volunteer Editors listing does have a lot of deadwood in it, but don't rely on the "last update" as an indicator of current availability -- what a person is willing to edit wouldn't necessarily change over time, so there isn't any real need for updates once they're on the list.

This is a bad time of the year to be looking for an editor -- whether from the VE List or the Editors' Forum -- because a lot of potential editors are preoccupied with holiday parties and/or preparations or are "gone for the holidiays."

You're more likely to find a Volunteer editor from the VE Listing if you send out requests ten at a time, and pick randomly from the middle of the list; the editors at the top of the list and at the bottom of the list get more requests and burn out quicker than those in the middle.

There is also a mechanism for reporting editors that don't respond so they can be removed from the listing.
