Ron Paul. Candidate for president, the one who is virtually shut out of the media and is using the internet to get his message out.

No Income Tax?

I heard Ron Paul will end the war, and remove income tax just to name a few, and I am kinda down for it (I don't work now, but when I did I hate how they tax us twice...)

I love how people either haven't heard of him, or they would vote for him...

Does that mean everyone who learns about him likes his stance?

I know I didn't know who he was and once I heard his "plans" (I don't even believe politicians) but they sound fuckin sweet to me...

Nope, I'm voting for Obama in February so I can say I voted against Hillary twice.

Don't forget abolish the federal reserve banking system and return the printing of money to the mint.

I would not vote for Ron Paul so long as a reasonably sound Democrat was running against him. However, should the senator from New York be the nominee I would be sorely tempted to vote for Paul.

He won't win the Republican nomination but might run as a third party candidate. He says he won't, but with over $20 million and growing in his campaign fund right now he's well positioned to do so. None of the Republicans has a prayer of earning my respect or trust so it would have to be the third party alternative if Nixon in a pantsuit comes out of Denver with the crown.

Most of the pie in the sky things Paul talks about would require constitution amendments or bills from congress and that isn't going to happen. Not that he has a chance of winning.

If I had a vote to use to register my annoyance with the democratic party, like I had the luxury of doing during clinton 1. (I voted Nader THEN, but not during Bush/Gore, jeez people) I might do that. I don't think I'm getting that luxury. I'd vote for anything I think will beat Huckabee if the pubs are really that insane. Which I'm beginning to think they are. Fag marriage is worse than anything the Middle East is throwing at us, abortion is a bigger issue than the coming recession, and people in the bottom tax bracket have everything to gain from tax policies that benefit the people in the top brackets. Even now? Even now. I'm considering life in Winnipeg.

I also prefer Edwards and Obama to Clinton. She's more of same - conciliatory lukwarm republican moderate has no platform Kerry-esque... who is actually passionate about this person? And I'd like one reason other than "we should have a woman in the white house" that they are?

I like Edwards the most, but I think he's scared corporate business as usual so bad that the major news outlets are avoiding their own focus groups saying he wins. I'd vote for Obama if he won the primary without a second's trouble too, though.

Nixon in a Pantsuit, I'm not sure. I've always gone with Kerry in a Dress. Does Nixon look better and better through the clarity of hindsight or what? The things he got tossed out of office for are just the presidential prerogative, shut up, now.

I can't fathom how anyone can make a campaign promise like this - because everyone who's benefitting from this system's going to lie down and take a nap while he does?

Edwards has two problems. He's white with a penis. Take out Hillary and Obama and I think he'd be the next president. With them in he'll be lucky to get 20%.

Actually, I expect Edwards to perform pretty well in Iowa but not so well in New Hampshire. My gut feeling right now is that the Iowa caucuses will end up this way: 1) Edwards; 2) Obama; 3) Clinton. I figure Obama to take New Hampshire and South Carolina with Clinton and Edwards sharing second in NH and SC. From there on it's anyone's guess. Clinton has a lot of name recognition, which is helping her in national polls where a lot of people haven't been paying close attention yet. The more the people in Iowa and NH have seen of her, the less they've liked her.

Netz, you're quite right. Nixon would be seen as a weakling by the standards of today's administration. He was impeached for things that W and Darth Cheney had done before W had covered even 50 miles on his White House treadmill.

He'll also repeal the Sarbanes Oxley Act that makes life hell for corporate accountants and those of us who have to deal with them.

Well, it was nice to have something *supposedly* protecting my private data, jokelike though that was...

Those are not problems in Iowa for one thing. And check out the CNN focus groups, not that they're the be all end all.

Clinton is the choice of the Democratic elite. Considering how most likely demoratic voters *feel* about the democratic elite and how most likely democratic voters *feel* about an actual populist candidate who seems to understand the urgency of health care and jobs, it will be interesting to say the least. And let's NOT underestimate the Oprah factor. Look what she did for publishing.

Iowa is one of the whitest states in America and Rasmussen has Edwards third. If he can't win in Iowa he can't win anywhere. But he has more years left than the walking dead like McCain and Thompson. We'll see more of Edwards. And Obama who I think really will be president once he gets more experience.

I've used Ron Paul as a write-in candidate twice now. He's officially the only republican running that I would vote for. Kucinich is pretty much the only democrat running that I would vote for. Odds are good that I'll vote Ron Paul regardless of whether he wins the nomination or not. I'd rather do a write-in than vote for someone I can't stomach. I'm pretty contrary though, so my take on this is only so good.

As an aside, I would not be heartbroken to see Obama win it. After eight years of Bush, just having an articulate speaker as president would be ever so nice.

Y'know, I haven't voted for a winning president since Clinton's first run.

Me either. But one might say no one has. Sorry it's hard to let go when it's just the whole concept of an election having any point.

Well, sure, but that gets us into an ontological argument. I was just trying to make the point that I don't bet on the winning horse in these races.

I voted no. I'd have to study where he stands on the issues. A good many of my home schooling buds think he is the cat's meow.

From what they said, he favors tightening the borders. Okay, but he also favors free enterprise. Mixed message much? I think the whole borders issue is stupid and that makes me think it is either just lip service he is throwing out there or he is stupid and prejudiced.

I also heard that he favors rolling back the abortion issue to the states to decide. Again, I'm against that bullshit.

He looks worn out too. Honestly, the pres is going to get worn out he shouldn't go into office that way.

So based on what I almost know atm, and before I actually look up his shit, I'd have to say NO FUCKING WAY I'd vote for this dude.

I probably wouldn't vote for him, were I able to vote in the US. But I'm fascinated watching the process down there. It's like watching a car wreck at this point; I don't want to see it, but I can't really look away!

I may consider opening my guest room up here to election refugees though. :D

I voted no, but that's because as was mentioned, I dont know that much about what his platform is. I honestly havent decided upon one candidate. I'm doing what I normally do, I watch and read everything Ican get my hands on and then decide with what my conscience will live with...

I looked at this thread yesterday and today when I was coming to my mom's house from college, I noticed a sign in a cow pasture in big letters "Ron Paul." For a second, "who is that" ran through my mind then I was like "ohhhh that's the guy they were talking about on Lit." LMAO
