Prying eyes! Not sure if masterpainting in public is legal in any state ......

the closest style for this would be covert masterpainting or mental masterpainting.
but yes, masterpainting struggles to gain public acceptance. Always has, always will. The practice is often kept in the dark, under covers, so to speak. But you'd think that a little harmless masterpainter session in say, a pubic park would cause no pain to anyone. But... it will not be accepted any time soon.

The masterpaint plan was to wait until your return, but you forced my hand to open up these portals a bit more prematurely than I really wished. You see the messy cost.
However, the premature post did inspire a masterpainting series entitled Pubic Park Studies, the first which pends even as we post.

As to the non-pubic masterpainting - you of course refer to the borders, the edges, the trimming.

All in due time.

Now if you'll excuse me, the brush I use for pubic calligraphy needs a quick cleaning.

These things tend to happen in the great and wonderful world of masterpainting. And I really don't mind the sticky brush, but when such a fit of masterpainting comes up and I haven't prepared, yes, it's a bit embarrassing - but it wouldn't be if it was pubic, I mean public.

Tom Wachtel made the public/pubic association in 1990-91 (consciously, not via a typo). It was "public relations" versus "pubic relations".

That is but one of numerous masterpainting ways. That isn't until S. We'll probably begin the masterpainting in earnest (that will come in the E, Earnest Masterpainting) with Abstract Masterpainting or in that neighborhood.

Excellent point! I thought the combos might complicate the subject at this early awakening stage of discussion. But you're absolutely spot on - the purely abstract masterpainter is a rare breed indeed. The earnest abstract masterpainter - correct, they tend to go, literally, from point A to B - not always in zip quick fashion of course - but they tend to deviate little from their ultimate final work. I feel a strong, very strong affinity to the abstract style but I am more of a messy abstract masterpainter than an earnest abstract masterpainter. And as we will hopefully see, there is no wrong way to masterpaint - and many do dabble with many styles, create their own combinations.

Oh but I love the absurd! I never got a comfortable handle on it, but I love love LOVE to watch... and if you notice, absurb is not far from abstract, at least in the dictionary. Realism - again, I have great respect for the realist masterpainters. They have that close connection to their canvas, intent focus, hand-eye precision. I hope you will be near when we reach R.

I am disturbed! Yesssss I hear you cry .. she is finally admitting it! I now see your reasoning for holding back on going pubic (oops public it's catching) We are no longer Masterpainting just we two and I feel stripped with many eyes upon me and my method has gone to pot! My pallet has run dry oh woe is me I need to skip to G for Group Therapy ... although A for All Hands on Deck might do the trick if the hands are warmed first.
Have just wondered what Bijou with her varied slant on the unethical and extraordinary would bring to Masterpainting and could I stand the strain?!!

Oh to masterpaint in Spain! To masterpaint like a spaniard! I confess envy, no not afraid to confess it... when spaniards masterpaint I just put the brushes away... ah, the flamenco masterpainting... nothing like it.

I'm just now catching up on this thread. Hadn't had time to give it, um, the attention it deserved. And I'm honored to be mentioned within a discussion like this... especially my varied and unethical slit. er. slant.

Masterpainting has certainly experienced a number of important movements over history. Certainly the Formalist school, with its emphasis on exactitude and technique, was instrumental in teaching the real mechanics of the art, but obviously their insistence on strict guidelines didn't work for everyone. We all know that when the Romantic Masterpainters began exhibiting themselves, with their focus on personal expression (and expulsion) there were riots in the streets of Paris. Duchamps' "Nude Defiling a Staircase" has since been recognized as a work of masterpainting genius, but at the time it was attacked as - you guessed it - an obscenity.

I hope there's a nice discussion of P for Pointillism. That's always been an affection of mine. Such attention to detail...

Sorry folks for the absence - ha! that's one! Absentminded masterpainting. Right up there in the A section. Formalism. Yeah, that's on the list, down there in lovely fields of F. Ain't got nothing against the formal masterpainters, as long as they don't force their legalism on poor folks just havin fun with their paints, and fingers, and pens. And stuff.
And a fine introductory dissemination, bijou. Look forward to more of your pointed and detailed input, as we go.
Sorry, I ain't here, just now. Been mixin' geetar doodles, still sucks, think it's hopeless, all those knobs and twiddlin and stuff, and I ain't no sound engineer, and the mind may be questionable.
