Maybe someone can help us figure out why we can't view these type of clips.

Whenever we go to redtube or youtube and the like, when we try to view one of the clips they take forever to download and then when they start playing it's like they are in slow motion - all jerky and not well focused - and then they stop after a few seconds and have to download some more. ( very frustrating I might add, since we can see just enough action to wish for more but not enough to keep us interested!).

I suspect that it has something to do with our internet connection speed (we have a dedicated DSL). We've had the same service for a good while. What type of service would we need to view these and other online videos?

More the most part, it is you local connection. If you have DSL, find a speed measuring web site by searching on DSL speed measure.

Likely, your local provider is giving you a lot slower speed than advertised. Or the modem they have given is old, and needs to be replaced with a faster one.

Occasionally these sites will lock up on a vid that is in high demand, but for the most part they don't.

If you don't mind one more question; what speed should we have?

Try this

Find your country and state, then choose the switching location. It will take 15 to 20 secs to run the test. You should get a screen that gives you the results.

I would check to see what speed the DSL company or cable company advertises vs what your speed is. If you aren't getting at least 750 k, then I would complain. I got 1.4 M and 1.5 M when I tried, and my modem often hangs up and needs to be cleared.
