i have a friend who was just passed over for a promotion...second time this has happened even though he would be absolutely perfect for the job. he was told he was too good at what he does and it would be too hard to replace him...that he's needed right where he is.

he's also the only black man on his staff.

its obvious and painful to see the truth...very delicate subject...he has no solid proof but its there and whats worse is leaving the company...moving on would mean much less money for him.

it goes both ways too...i wanted to make a thread about it when it happened a year and a half ago but i try to limit my internet time these days...i have a lot of struggling actress/model girlfriends...all of them wait on tables. at one such establishement i know of a restaurant manager who had her pants sued off as well as completely fucking up her career over using the phrase "lazy assed niggers" .

personally i want my friend to keep taking home good paychecks...bide his time and when they finally slip up...

I think that I'm incapable of that kind of thing, I pretty much know it. I'm more of a love all kinda girl, you know? I think LM has a point, people just close up when people meet them head on, it often makes them cling on to thir opinion all the harder.

I'm not saying ignore the racist comments -I think it's right that thery're pointed out and people are given opportunity to apologise -we all say things in the heat of the moment we regret or make the odd inappropriate joke. I don't think "bugger off you racist pig" is going to make that person think about their attitude and change it.

However, to answer BG, I don't know if I could be a friend to a person who judges me as inferior for my race/hair colour/size but I can understand wanting to ignore the bad too.

Maybe sometimes it is naivity, maybe they just don't even know that person is known for being a generally horrid piece of work but sometimes mabe they can see something in that person that they like - not all people think in the black and white that Kyle does. Maybe some people can ignore someone being racist becausethey don't believe it's a big issue. I think that someone like this is racist by association in Kyle's eyes at least and maybe its true. If you're able toturn a blind eye to it, maybe in some way you do condone it, I can't say that for sure, though.


Also, this is online. Some people could suck up to the racists, bigots etc just for kicks or maybe they flirt but don't really mean it, it's just the net after all.

Actually I spent the day doing quite a lot of diffent things, did some shopping, went to the gym and to my niece's violin recital. She attends the top performing arts public high school in NYC and I am very proud, especially because I took her to her first orchestra performance when she was 5.
