I went to the beach this weekend. And even though I used a STRONG SPF sunblock my legs got burned BADLY. They are so painful it feels like my legs are bruised. There are tons of tales of ways to get rid of the pain. PLEASE share them with me. I have coated them in aloe but need something else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all

Noxema.

Go buy the big blue jar of it and have it piled up on you.

Keep it on 24/7 until the burn fades.

i hate getting sunburned and i never know what to do when i do so i cant give any advice ... except im sorry i know how painful and frustrating it can be :(

Noxema is absolutely wonderful. The only other thing I'd recommend is this aloe product made by Banana Boat. It's a green gel with lots of aloe and other soothing stuff. Put it in the refrigerator until it's cold, then apply it. It's absolute Heaven on a sunburn.

Trust me on this. I have primarily two colors: white and red. I don't even start to tan until I've gotten three or four sunburns.

Solarcaine (tm) -- comes in spray cnas so you don't actually have to touch the sunburn to apply it, or a soothing Aloe gel to moisturize and minimize peeling.

Orajel (tm) (or other teething ointment) -- greasy, but a stronger topical anesthetic dose than Solarcaine (tm) and it doesn't wash off in the pool.

Neosporin (tm) Pain Relief -- topical anestheetic in an anti bacterial ointment or cream. Especially good if the sunburn blisters to promote healing and prevent infection.

If you're too poor, or can't find something with a topical anesthetic in it, ice or very cold wet washclothes will cool the burn.

Once you've dealt with the pain, the other suggestions are good for promoting healing and minimizing peeling, but the only thing I've found over the years for that initial tenderness and hot skin is to deaden the nerve endings so you can stand to touch the burn with moisturizers.

When I was a child, my mother use to give me a vinegar bath ..... stunk to high heaven .... but it did seem to take the sting out.

Good luck!

Thanks

You guys are so wonderful....thank you for your help. I and my sunburn thank you. I am off to try ALL the responses at once if I could.

Try a mix of vinegar and witch hazel

This story reminds me of a tale a friend once told me. He was out all day in the sun without any SPF block and when he came in at dinner time he had to have his wife help him due to the pain of the sunburn. His wife proceeded to liberally apply "Absorbine Jr." all over his body. I'm not sure if his marriage survived that incident!

That's what the General Board is for! Aside from Fuzzy who gets a bit prickly, we are a friendly, helpful bunch!

Be sure to check in soon for melanoma tips!
