Peanuts are not nuts! Peanuts are peas that look like nuts -- they are legumes. Entirely different allergy.

My apologies for being pedantic here, but I can't eat tree nuts, but I love peanuts.

Peanuts are not nuts, true, they are legumes. But tomatoes aren't vegetables. We still call them such and use them as such. Some people are deathly allergic to peaNUTS. It's considered a nut allergy because of the commonly used name. Sometimes, common usage doesn't match the official classification, but by popular use becomes the standard.

I agree with that. To me it seems the nut and peanut allergies are becoming more prevalent, or is it they are being recognized more?

My father is allergic to raw peanuts, but not roasted ones. The first time he reacted was in the 1980s in his thirties, when he ate a handful of raw peanuts and ended up in the ER. He'd never eaten non-roasted peanuts before. Never ate them again either.

That's good to hear. I know sometimes the allergy disappears. My wifes niece's son had a severe peanut allergy. When they had him tested right after puberty, it had disappeared.

It's not on YouTube, but on Spotify you can find a Weird Paul song called "Not of This World". It's a fun, blow-by-blow plot summary of a 1991 made-for-TV science fiction film of the same name. Good stuff.
