The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

He was considered Mulatto (from mixed grandparent in Bahamas) He wrote letters to people complaining about facing racism.

EDIT: He was whitewashed by mainstream american history for two centuries.
Well then I have learned something today.

I will say that its the poor American history textbook that doesnt have a painting of him.

Just folks understand the why of things in the musical. In Hamilton, the main characters, including Alexander Hamilton, are intentionally cast with Black, Latino, and Asian actors to show that "the story of America then, told by America now," making the historical narrative relevant, inclusive, and accessible to a modern, diverse audience, highlighting themes of immigration, ambition, and the country's founding by people of color. This choice isn't about historical accuracy (Hamilton was a white immigrant from the Caribbean) but about reflecting contemporary America and creating opportunities for actors of color.

Please always remember, and don't ever forget, all Americans come from immigrants... Even the Native Americans came from elsewhere across a land or ice bridge between present-day Alaska and Siberia. That is why it is so ignorant for Americans to hate people from other places in the world. My adoptive father can trace his patrilineal ancestry on both sides back to their arrival in the Colonies between 1640 and 1700. But of course, on his mother's side, there's the Indian blood, so even earlier than that. He doesn't hate immigrants. After all, Mum came from England, to Malaysia, to Australia, and then here to marry Pops.

The thing that will blow their mind more than that dose is that only pure African blood has no trace of Neanderthal in its DNA. I'm pretty sure pure Aryan blood has the highest percentage of Neanderthal of all humans. And since there isn't an Aryan race, I shouldn't be insulting anyone.
'Murican's heads'll 'splode when you tell them virtually all humans are descendants of those who originated in the region that is now known as Africa.

I've noticed it's ok to bash and mock America, more specifically Americans, throughout the threads on AH.

I've also noticed that people here that are American seem to be careful not to do the same, to avoid the xenophobic label.

Do we Americans just deserve it and others don't?

At the risk of starting another political fight...often, yes.

I invented a new POV this morning that I call "3rd person crappy", and it's when the narrator is such an insufferable bore that the author can't stand to be around them.

This was not a story I'd intended to have the main character tell herself, but the narrator I hired for this one doesn't seem to be the right one for the job. So if she wants to start smashing instruments like a punk star she might have to jump on stage and start playing.

you could just feed her to plot bunnies...no, they're vegiaryiand aren't they?

So far wrong about the coffee- it is doing nothing to make me visit my poor characters. they remain frozen at the point where they might actually have sex instead of just thinking and talking about it.

On this day, in this place, Z made a dumb.

You might think, "surely not that dumb?"

But no, that shit was DUMB. Like the big dumb, you normally only hear about in the movies.

And he was just embarrassed enough to put this memorial to his stupidity here instead.

In my defense, I didn't sleep much, and I am dumb.

I started over in first person. I even tried to do first person past tense, but got one paragraph in and my character was pushing me aside and taking charge. She wants to tell me her story as it happens. It will be up to me to decide how to tell it to Lit, I guess, but for now this is how it's rolling.

Only got 300 words but that's all I had before I started over, so it's good. The goal is to get a sijo on page 1 so that a reader sees it fast and gets used to them, and both versions did that.

It's kind of an odd perspective which I haven't seen that often (…)
It’s 3rd person close/limited, and it’s literally how most popular novels are written these days. It’s the opposite of uncommon :)

And yes, you’re doing it right. I’d italicize the Fuck, since it’s a literal thought, but it’s not strictly necessary. If that’s how you prefer to write, you’re on the right track.

Got up a little early this morning but I'm not doing too bad. The rush of pain I expected never showed up but I am achy and the knee doesn't like being used very much. It's still cold and the snow we got Monday is still covering things. My lawn mowing service didn't get any income for the past three weeks so I guess that's it for the year.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee going, and the teapot is steaming. There are cookies and cupcakes on the counter and the whole place looks festive with the lights flashing on and off. Thanks to everyone who helped decorate the place up.

I'll be over in the corner trying to put words to paper (figuratively) as I try not to check my author's panel every five minutes. With no deadline facing me, I hope I can get some writing done today.
