How did you choose your avatar and username?

My name is literally just that I'm pretentious enough that I liked the idea of signing a pre-/postscript with a single letter, I like the letter Z for some reason, but I couldn't take just that as my name.

My avatar is just a low quality PNG I spent like 2 minutes on in paint. I kinda like it though, the white background makes it look integrated into the site in many locations.

I was kinda in a hurry with both, as I had finished and edited my first story and really wanted to submit it before being able to talk myself out of doing so.

Hmm, apparently when this post started, @AG31 tagged me and I said "pass," but now I can't remember why... I think when I was still getting started, I was shy about sharing literally anything for fear of disclosing identifying information.

Penny Thompson was the name of my first MC, and I came up with it because I wanted something kind of plucky and cute, but not overly sexy. And since I didn't have any plans at the time to write more than a few Penny stories to get them out of my system, I used her name for my username too.

For a while, as I was exploring things beyond the Penny series, I regretted using her name as my author name. People can't help but fuse the character with the author, sometimes in ways that were a little uncomfortable...

But I've come back around to being happy with it, because the character Penny isn't strictly autobiographical, but she is aspirational to the kind of person I want to be. Maybe not as naive as the character, but kind and cheerful and striving to create joy around her.

As for pfp, I first had an AI-generated full face profile of how I imagined the character Penny. But full-face feminine profiles turn out to be an absolute dick-magnet on the forum, and I also started to feel more and more uncomfortable with AI content, so I changed it to my current one!

I chose my username because, yes, I am a lesbian and I love to smile.

As far as my avatar, I chose a lavender menace theme as a 'thank you' to all the brave baby boomer lesbians who not only fought for women's rights but also for lesbian rights.

Edit:

Lavender warriors
Lesbians fierce and tender
Defying silence
Hands linked, banners raised in pride
Lesbian freedom born from their fight

My username is a pseudonym I created just for this site that I like the sounds of, especially given the only writing I intended to do being my "main" storyline.

I drew my avatar. It's my first attempt at drawing in forever and though it's terrible I decided to use it until I get significantly better at drawing.
