The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I get the impression that about half of the AH could keel over almost any day. I know I don't expect another ten years. Maybe not five.

It's a cloudy and cool morning and it will get up to 60 degrees today. It looks like I'm going to have to put up a sign warning people not to feed the plot bunnies. Wading through them isn't fun since I'd hate to step on one.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are muffins and cupcakes on the counter. There's also a big bowl of Chex party mix for those who snack while writing.

I'll be over in the corner working on my new story. I actually got some words down so I'm a little more optimistic about getting it done in time.

For those who track their stats daily, has anyone noticed a sharp drop-off in number of reads in the past three days? Mine has gotten so bad that I received four votes on stories without any reads recorded for them. So, unless there's a way to vote on a story without opening it, the reads aren't being recorded properly.

I think there is a way that it would look like that -- if you open a story to read it, I suspect it registers the view immediately. If the reader is slow reading the story (and 32K takes a while to read), you may have seen the view and then see the vote hours later.

(Your story was really good btw.)

I woke up thinking it was Saturday. I was excited for the weekend. But now I get an extra day to look forward to Saturday and an extra day to work in the Plot Bunny Mines (that's where new bunnies come from, right? I was better at math than biology).

Oh, dear. You don't know where plot bunnies come from? Didn't your parents have that chat with you? You see, it all starts when a daddy bunny meets a momma bunny, and... uh... uh... you don't still believe in Santa Claus, do you?

I have to admit, it is rewarding in some ways writing for authors. My How To has been up just over 24 hours now. It is my fourth most commented and sixth most favorited story on my 47 published thus far. 19 comments with only 732 views! And one very contrarian voter (with an emphasis on 1).

For limited data, yes. I've also noted at least one case where there was a vote without any reads. Also one story for which the number of votes has dropped by one for two or three days.

what, noew you are going to claim that Santa doesn't exist?
And I thought that I was a grinch. geez.

Like @NuclearFairy , I had nothing new in almost two months until this week, so my reads came in dribs and drabs. My Winter contest story was going gang busters for two days, views wise. It has slowed down, but I took that at a natural. It's a few hundred views below my most viewed Romance story. (Category dominates everything in views)

I haven't been checking because I don't want to teach my brain to obsess over ratings & views, but I'm getting what feels to be a good amount of both. I'm getting more votes than usual, which is probably due to this being a new category for me and the views seem roughly in line with what I saw for Halloween.

I do like the engagement that I've gotten with this contest. It makes me think that the next one is Valentine's Day and the submission window opens up in less than two months.

But I don't have a problem.

I can stop writing for contest views any time, I swear.

scratches neck and starts eyeing some pure, uncut Loving Wives story view cocaine
