I think most of is regulars have - via observation or occasional convos with the site (now discontinued) - formed the impression of a mom and pop outfit, held together by the principals own manual efforts.

So… what if one or more of the principals is no longer active? Rosiest scenario, they have taken retirement. Less rosy, they are incapacitated or worse - let’s hope not.

What you are left with is a complicated and essentially manual process now being run by someone (the other principal, a family member, who knows?) who has no real familiarity with its intricacies.

This would explain:

1. The submissions problems, things that the previous principal would have worked out are OK manually no longer get through
2. The impact on white listed authors - (and I know a white list exists and I know that it was mostly in someone’s head - this is based on convos with the someone in question)
3. The ridiculously ineffective Halloween Comp sweep - I said at the time it felt like an intern was doing it
4. The total abandonment of ad hoc support for authors - the intern doesn’t have enough time and has no idea how to do things like fix malicious voting - they can’t even run a sweep properly

Did you mean "manual efforts" or MANUal efforts? I'm under the impression Manu IS the IT department here: strategist, designer, programmer and helpdesk. He built a platform in tne 90's, upgraded it once in early 2000's and has done nothing since.

The plus side of Lit is it's free to users, there are no pay gates or premium memberships, and they don't seem to sell mrmbership info.

The downside is they run on the extreme cheap.

May I add one more thing. This thread is focused on author issues, but there are plenty of other issues on the site.

Chat is a joke, the platform is wobblier than tits on a trampoline, and the mods are arbitrary and amateurish.

Longstanding policies are no longer being enforced. I naively wandered into Politics Board and was blasted with racial insults and abuse ("knee grow," "lips like a flat tire," "black cunt "). I reported these and got no response. I escalated and got no response. Others told me not to bother, "nobody cares anymore."

These are just a couple of examples. The site feels like it's crumbling.

I've noticed that story titles with numbers at the beginning have been approved a lot recently. That used to not be allowed, chapter/series name had to come first in the title.

And there's some bending or bypassing of contest rules regarding stories that aren't standalone, too.

I don't really interact with the site as a reader or user anymore, but I doubt it's a wholly wonderful experience on that end, either.

I'd say it's so-so from a reader's perspective. It's not well organized to find stories you read previously. The categories are strange and could use an update. For browsing newer stories if you know what you like, it's okay.

I brlieve it is definitely worth your while to fight for better integrity on the rating system. I rarely look at a story rated below 4.5, and never below 4.0. I suspect many readers are the same.

Well, I noticed "Incest/Taboo" became "Taboo/Incest" but I wasn't observant enough to notice much else. But lately i've been spending so much f*$&cking time on Forum i haven't read many stories.

They split Transgender from Crossdressing as the most significant change.

Crossdressing and Transgender got split into separate things, and NonConsent/Reluctance got renamed Reluctance/NonConsent (I'm pretty sure that happened, anyway). I think that last one was a minimum-possible attempt to discourage people from just writing straight-up rape stuff that violates site rules.

There is no safeguarding whatsoever here anymore. It was never great and often long after the fact, but it’s non-existent now.

I’m sorry you have to put up with racist scum hiding behind anonymity. These people are the lowest of the low.

But please try to remember that - even here - most people are decent, and many are kind. It’s just empty vessels making noise as they have nothing else to contribute.

I think Politics forums on basically every social media platform are mine-fields
