Not a lit thing, but the other day I was asked for our (a client I do accounting for) accounts receivable report from what was an obvious to me scammer. It's somewhat insidious. What they will do is use the report to tell our customers that our banking information has changed, and then the customers will pay the scammers and not us.

Question for the masses...do alts count as catfish by definition or based on intent? I would argue that someone with multiple accounts to hide their past is a catfish, someone who actually lost the ability to log in because they forgot the PW to the site and the email they set up on Hotmail to create the lit account is not technically a catfish.

I think there's a danger in using the word 'fake' without attaching it directly to actions like catfishing.

We all post in a certain way that we're comfortable with, showing only parts of our personality that we're willing to show. Does this mean we're fake?

The near-angry defensiveness of some men on here, so fearful of being tricked in some way, can and does lead to trying to pressure women here to share more than they want to... whether it's voice, pics or something else... and god forbid the women say no. We must be hiding something like our penises!

On a personal note, my decision to flirt wildly and yet rarely let anyone 'in', is it my having harmless fun or is it fake because I've led men on with no actual outcome? The same goes for women who post pics but aren't engaging in sexual activity in private? Are they fake for appearing sexual but not being sexual?

If you're posting pics that aren't yours, it's clearly fake. But what if they ARE yours, but they're filtered or older and your body is a bit different now... is that fake?

Even posting about our day, our lives...everything is cherry picked by everyone. Whether it's the best of us to show off or to admit our failings (never the real bad ones, of course). So, does that mean everyone's posts are fake... even though they're actually true?

I understand that no-one wants to waste their time when they're looking for something specific. I understand that it can be embarrassing if you fall for a lie (in any form) that is deliberately offered to deceive.

If there's too much fear of things being fake on here and let's face it, a lot of this is aimed at the women more than the men given the ratios, then in my humble opinion all the 'wary' men are going to do is push the women towards the less fearful and judgemental. We have to expend enough energy in real life to defend our positions as women in society already that when it comes to our presence online... we're not going to bow down to the pressure of men to prove that we're not fake.

I do completely agree with you. I think a was more referring to totally fake profile as in a man or maybe even a bot. I know of several women who have left because of hassle to prove themselves from men. Of course there are many who want meaningful interaction and they can't really say they weren't warned as this is an erotic fiction site.
Ultimately it's buyer beware and be safe online.
