The Official Authors' Hangout Winter Holidays 2025 Support Thread

I apologize for possibly being overly concerned. I am entering a Literotica contest for the first time, the Holiday 2025 contest. I submitted the story on Oct 29, and it currently shows as pending. Theoretically it could either be accepted and will magically appear as published on Nov 11, or it could currently be unreviewed and possibly still be rejected. Is there a way that a submittee can know if in fact a story has been approved and is simply awaiting publishing, or if it is pending still awaiting review? Thank you
We are aware that there are delays in posting stories. I have a pair of story edits that have been waiting nearly 2 months, but my contest entry flew right past them because contest entries have priority. Make sure that you have WINTER HOLIDAY 2025 in the notes to admin field when you submit your story and it gets top priority.

After discussion with my editor/alpha/beta/reader, I decided not to post a story for the winter contest.

My story oozed V-Day and I was trying to force it in a holiday contest format.

So you are free of my silly comments and questions

February is in Winter and V-Day is a Holiday of sorts.

Thank you very much for your responses, and good luck on your stories!

I don't have a story and the deadline is 11/11.

Holidays are never fun for me. I call them the trifecta from hell (Thanksgiving, Xmas and NY). Making them sexy is a huge challenge.
I wrote one of my poems just about Winter itself. Is....that not allowed? If it is - maybe that is more moving to you?

Where did you get that idea? 11/11 OPENS the contest - your deadline is 12/5

You have 32 days to write 750 words, that's 23.5 words a day - you can do it!

Someone told me I had 10 days to write my story. I guess they were mistaken

Like writing a 750 story is easy..... This is for February is the best of all worlds

750 words is the minimum allowable length of a story. You can enter a 750 word story in any Lit contest or event. You can get out of the chimney and into her bedroom in 750 words!

I probably could but I think people eyes would bleed reading it if I wrote it.

May be I write a trip to Grandma for Xmas and there are so many gift that Mommy sit on Little Johnny's laps in the car and boom. Incest! 100K views! Red H. :ROFLMAO: Just making fun of the Mommy in the back seat trope. Not trying to offend or insult anyone

Never say never. I planned on skipping this contest, then I got an idea that just popped in my head, and three days later I had a story, over 10k words, ready to go. Finished editing it last week.

Congrats!

Well I had a story that came to mind over night. I started writing it (231 words, YEAH ME) but I have an issue. I have no idea how to get to the ending (MMC and FMC get together - it is a romance story).
However, a better writer than me told me to start writing even if the ending is not clear.
So I am trying it for the first time. We shall see what happen. I can always burn the file if needed.

Writing is an act of discovery! I once had an odd idea about nanobots and AI and spies and decided to see where it went without a clear idea of where I was going to go. It was kind of fun to see how the story evolved.

Last week it became my bestselling book.

I second that. I've even set out to write a story I had pretty well mapped in my head, only to have it morph into something totally different. At least half of my non-serial stories started as a premise and a desired ending (romantic sex, who could have guessed), and I just wrote until I got there. I doubt I could do that with a novel-length story, but it's a pretty effective way of putting out a short story for a contest.

We will be here for you, and if you do hit a wall, don't feel alone or a failure. We all do it! I's struggling through a wall 246 words into a story.
Thank you for the support. I wrote 1300+ words so far. It is really sad so far. I introduce the MMC back story and he is about to meet the FMC. I still have no idea how to make it sexy but I am proud of what I wrote so far.

The encouragements really help. Thank you.

We're about a week out from the submission window opening. How's everyone's story coming along? Lots of snow, holiday cheer, and drunken SantaCon bar crawls?
