The Official Authors' Hangout Winter Holidays 2025 Support Thread

I decided to just forget the issues and submit a regular story yesterday. Approved by this morning, and set to publish tomorrow. Fingers crossed it all goes well, but it does seem like my normal submission-to-publication timeline.

Surely it's not going to be a Winter Contest entry? Those shouldn't post until the 11th...

And don't call me Shirley.

Yeah, I submitted my Halloween story like three weeks early because I was going on a long work trip and didn't want to forget while I was gone.
That makes sense. I guess I’d read AH chatter that it was safer to submit once the official contest announcement came out, if, god forbid, the Admin Notes magic words were different from what was expected.

I submitted prior to the official window for the Crime and Punishment event, with I think the correct words in the note. My story appeared the next day, then disappeared back into pending for several weeks. I think I submitted the day before they started scanning for the magic words. So I would be hesitant to submit too early. I think they are probably more diligent with official contests than with author organized events, so that ay offset it.

Happy to say that I’m ahead of the game with my story, layout, setting and outline all done for the Holiday contest!

Wait….12 days until submissions start? Yeah, I haven’t actually written a word yet. I’m totally behind.

In regards to my story for this event, what rhyme scheme do people prefer?

Traditional ABAB CDCD....
Octave ABBA CDDC...
Quatrain AAAA BBBB....

Just figuring what style to use

Okay “Winter Loves Red” is completed and ready for submission.

I have a second story written, The Amulet and the House of Morgana, it is in final review now but not entering it in the contest just submitting as a story that has a winter, holiday emding but not really in line with the contest.

I had high hopes for turning in my Halloween story super early, but ended up three days before the bell. Really thankful it didn’t get bounced back. This time, like the last one, I have the story arc set early, so should be submitting soon. But I’m using this story to dive into a nonlinear story timeline. It may take me time to get it smooth and understandable. My entire portfolio of fiction writing is hosted on this account (4 stories), so this is challenging for me. They’ve scored well so far. Wish me luck, and I’ll hope to hear from readers how it goes. Cheers

Holy smokes. I somehow have two poems already prepped and ready to go (though I cannot bring myself to hit submit yet. I want to give them another look over or two to see if I want to make any changes, just in case)

AND I'm working on a story that I might be able to finish before the 11th as well.

How did this happen?! I blame everyone in AH for my sudden love of writing.

Thinking about entering a story for the first time in this contest (I popped my contest cherry with Halloween).

However, I know that my writing needs help.

Any suggestions on how to get beta readers or an editor?

A couple of authors each did a beta read of my story and their feedback was unvaluable. However, I do not want to ask them as I am conscious of the time suck being a beta reader/editor is.

I just messaged you.

Probably going to do my readthrough and any edits in the next day or two, then upload. My story is an attempt at romance between a male character with dwarfism and a female character without dwarfism. No idea why that came into my head, but it did

I apologize for possibly being overly concerned. I am entering a Literotica contest for the first time, the Holiday 2025 contest. I submitted the story on Oct 29, and it currently shows as pending. Theoretically it could either be accepted and will magically appear as published on Nov 11, or it could currently be unreviewed and possibly still be rejected. Is there a way that a submittee can know if in fact a story has been approved and is simply awaiting publishing, or if it is pending still awaiting review? Thank you

Not sure if you understand that you can tell if it has been accepted. It stays in the Pending list until it appears publicly. But it's status changes from Pending to Published and it gets an orange NEW tag. The date changes to the date it will appear. If things are running smoothy for your story, it will happen within a couple of days of you hitting submit/publish.
