As for the two aircraft, they were both off the same ship. One was a Helo, that crashed into the ocean during routine operations and all three crew were rescued. The second was a Super Hornet that possibly had an engine failure on the Cat shot. Both crew ejected and were rescued.

Now for the housecleaning portion. The Nimitz is an older carrier and top of her class, which bears her name. I saw reported upstream, that the mishaps were due to “older” equipment. While older equipment, they’re all still top tier aircraft and nuclear carrier.

Also, new carriers and old will have these types of mishaps. Here’s a Comparison of new Chinese carriers to older US ships. This isn’t to throw shade, but every weapons delivery system will have pros/cons. The Chinese Navy has plans for Global Projection by 2050. A lot of that depends on ports of call, but that’s a discussion for another day.
