I’m kinda partial to a little Florence Pugh. Anyone who can out act Saorise Ronan is a very fine actor. And it’s OK as my SO agrees with me.Ha! I can see that. Great actor as well. For me it's Cate Blanchett. Frigging brilliant actor, not that I've seen everything, but I do try. Remember when LOTR came out, read a review that talked about her performance. Something like she could walk out in a pair of sweats, read from the script and the movie would be better for it; I'm inclined to agree.
At the risk of diminishing a much more serious problem, I don’t mind trying to reclaim slut as a term of female empowerment, but the fact that some POC might use the word we are discussing in a similar way doesn’t legitimize white people doing the same. It’s not hard to figure why.Yeah go figure. Some of us Colored Folk don't like hearing the N-word. And you're on a rant because a Colored Folk stood up to you about it. And you think there's a CONSPIRACY and everyone's after you now.
Wtf dude. What the actual fuck.
Well, i'm not gonna claim to be consistent. I use the term slut for myself, even here. I DON'T use the N-word, even around "my people", though, mostly for this very reason that caused the guy to start this thread. Too many "non-colored" people use that as their basis to rant against "wokeness" or whatever. At the risk of diminishing a much more serious problem, I don’t mind trying to reclaim slut as a term of female empowerment, but the fact that some POC might use the word we are discussing in a similar way doesn’t legitimize white people doing the same. Answer me this, please. Who do many "Colored Folk" continuously used the N-word? Hmmmmm?Yeah go figure. Some of us Colored Folk don't like hearing the N-word. And you're on a rant because a Colored Folk stood up to you about it. And you think there's a CONSPIRACY and everyone's after you now.

No. HELL no. FUCK NO.Answer me this, please. Who do many "Colored Folk" continuously used the N-word? Hmmmmm?
I'll never pretend not understanding you, and YOU do the same with me! Its taken US 80 years to replace the 6 million of US slaughtered from1933 to 1945, with many in this world today wishing Hitler was never stopped. So, lets not pretend about calling ourselves by "forbidden" names. You'll never hear me calling any of MY people any of the names the majority of the world uses to disparage us.No. HELL no. FUCK NO.
People who have been insulted by this word and attacked by this word and treated like animals with this word...if we use it amongst ourselves in our own community based on our shared experiences, that's one thing.
You, however, are not part of our community. You have not shared in our experience with this word. When you childishly insist you have a "right" to say it, that is NOT the same thing.
Do NOT pretend you don't understand me. You know goddamned well what I mean. You're not fooling anyone. Not even yourself.

I get that aging and bereavement are awful things. But you really need to stop. You are being deeply offensive for absolutely no reason. I’d really recommend walking away from the keyboard. Nothing you are saying here is in any way cool, and it’s obvious to everyone but you that this is the case.I'll never pretend not understanding you, and YOU do the same with me! ...but you know what, after subsequent comments in this thread, I'm not gonna both-sides this.OP: I have no idea what the beef is between you and blackrandl1958 or who started it. I don't see it as my job to judge who's in the wrong here.

Jeff, I'm just going to drop this and wish you the best.I'll never pretend not understanding you, and YOU do the same with me! Give them my love and let's forget the hate.To be truthful, I have 2 grandchildren older than you.![]()
I don't use it either. I can see why they would be offended, but it was in a story, probably spoken by a character. I don't think he said it to them over the phone. I also think it's a bit ironic to say colored.Well, i'm not gonna claim to be consistent. I use the term slut for myself, even here. But hey...if someone insists on saying this word, just know that a lot of people don't like it. And it might get people pissed of at you.
Saying "colored" was intended to be ironic.I don't use it either. I can see why they would be offended, but it was in a story, probably spoken by a character. I don't think he said it to them over the phone. I also think it's a bit ironic to say colored.
I wasn't trying to argue, just explain that I understand their issue. I don't know the context of how it was used in a story, just that it was used in a story, not said to their faces. That's the difference to me. Plus I responded before I read the rest.Saying "colored" was intended to be ironic.
I said also, use the N word if you wish, but be aware there may be consequences, because it offends many people, regardless of how you use it.
In any event, I made peace with the gentleman who started the thread and I've dropped this argument.
All good. Not sure i completely understood the context either, but it didn't stop me from jumping in face first.I wasn't trying to argue, just explain that I understand their issue. I’ve never met Randi, so this all-powerful author who decided to no longer be friends with you after you used the N word has no influence on me.Know your very close relationship with Randi, I wouldn't expect any different response.
