The disturbing number of criminal convictions in your country from forced confessions, fabricated evidence and coercive plea bargaining ("plead guilty or we'll pile on more and more serious charges and hold you in jail for months or years until your trial comes up!") indicate that the rights of the accused have already been seriously "reduced"!

Oh, goodness me, of course there are problems in all the countries, even those with a free press and democratic elections. On the other hand, the abuses in those countries (you are implying that abuses happen, aren't you?) indicate that "reducing the rights of the accused" is precisely what shouldn't be done, no?
