Comments that leave you shaking your head

Um, but you just did comment on the story by first making a comment, then commenting on why you don't like these stories.

I've mentioned I don't delete comments, but sometimes I see that little trashcan to the upper right and imagine tossing the person into it and hearing "Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" as they plummet into it.

Then Oscar the Grouch kicks their ass.

First of all, no blue heeler has ever been ugly.
Second, the story is pretty much the same thing over & over again, from the first half-page on. She might be a snotty bitch, but he has a being-an-asshole fetish. This is probably why he's alone, and living on his own world in the back of the house. Apparently no family either.
Makes me ashamed to be a 60+ male.
Finally, would it kill you to get a proofreader? Sheesh.
Blue Heelers aren't ugly that's a fact. BUUUUUT, the dog in the story is a cross between a Blue Heeler and an English Bulldog. Aa friend has a dog of that particular cross-breed and it is ugly as sin, a loving, friendly mutt to be sure, but still ugly. Apparently, the reader can't read with comprehension.

"...the story is pretty much the same thing over & over again from the first half page on."
Hmmmm, I'm not sure what story you're talking about but it isn't the one you left this comment on.

Snooty bitch she is, asshole fetish he does have.

"This is probably why he's alone, and living on his own world in the back of the house."
Again not reading with comprehension. The reason Sam is living alone is explained in the first paragraph of the story. And living in the back of the house...he bought a property that has a very small main house but also a huge shop with a fully equipped mancave in the back. He spends more time out there than in the house.

"Apparently no family either."
The 10th sentence on the first page:

"After his wife died Sam had sold the big house they had lived in to his son and bought a smaller one."

"Makes me ashamed to be a 60+ male."

That may be my anon reader, but it damned sure gave me a giggle to read your comment.

I have recently had two responses to a story I posted a month ago. Both are very ego-boosting but make me wonder if less is more. The story Find Me - If You Can was originally written for a 1000-word challenge on another site. Others had called for extension or expansion.

A Romantic Tease
The man may have intended a one night - stand. Lucy had other plans. She devised a tease that not only made her the most desirable woman alive but also tested his intelligence and commitment. Alex, the story is perfect as it is. Don't rewrite it.

Testing the Intelligence of a prospective mate
Natural selection presupposes the struggle of life will produce a stronger, brighter species. Sometimes however natural selection needs help by culling from the herd undesirable traits. Here Lucy has devised a test to find the most intelligent mate. Short and sweet, FIND ME is a monumental piece.

On thomas_dean's comment, I don't know what he intended as in 1000 words you don't get to investigate.
On Dr_James_Daves_DF comment, again not sure, except she didn't want to waste time on what might have been a lucky night for him.
So I will leave it be as a [H] that I would hate to lose!

Well, I finally received a comment that I deleted… and I’ve left up one calling me an anti-semite.

This one was so off-topic, political, snide, unfunny, and generally stupid that I think someone copied and pasted it from a YouTube comment thread!

Not a specific comment, but ones that often leave me baffled are the ones that say "So imaginative, what an original idea!", and then the ones that say "This was so believable and realistic!"

Aside from SF&F stories of course, it seems that the more down-to-earth my premise is, the more readers will declare it to be imaginative and original, and the more outlandish and far-fetched it is, the more it will be described as realistic.

This isn't a complaint, by the way: I love both kinds of comments. It just leaves me scratching my head at the way other people's minds work so unlike my own.

Poorly written (grammar and spelling errors) non-anonymous comments amuse me (I usually check their profile). I don't delete them because I want others to chuckle too 😁

You know, the comments that puzzle me the most are the ones they refuse to post.
Give my story a lousy rating, but don't leave a comment telling me what they didn't like.
Or post it to their 'Favorites' file, but don't offer a rating or comment at all. You get notified when someone 'Favorites' your story, and if you track your ratings [yes, I'm a ratings whore] you can tell if no new rating has been added.

I find the lack of comments frustrating as I want to learn!

There seem to be two meanings to a 'Favourites' notification: 1. Your story has been added to a reading list, and 2. Your story has been added to a favourites list. If it is the former, then they have not read it, so they won't be commenting then, or ever!
[yes, I'm a ratings whore] you can tell if no new rating has been added.
I used to track the ratings of my newer stories each morning and put them in a spreadsheet (older stories either weekly or monthly) so I could detect when I had probably had a 1 bomb and no comment. I moved house, and so I had poor access and stopped. I'll not be restarting. That said, I do check my latest story most days.

The notifications always just say. 'XXX' has added your story to 'Favorites'. You are saying some of these may just be additions to the 'Read Later' list? Interesting, and misleading, bug, if true.

If you use a spreadsheet to track your story ratings trends....you might be a ratings whore. At least, that's how I know that 'I' am one.

I believe that originally there was only either favouries, or reading list, and readers had to use it for both uses. Then they were split. On the Stories page, a reader actually needs to click on Bookmark (another term) and then choose their list. On your Control Panel, my latest story has three favourite hearts, as does the story, but on my Stories page https://www.literotica.com/authors/AlexFourways/works/stories it also shows 11 in lists. Possibly it has been cleaned up, but I think I have had more than three 'added to favourites' messages. However, as I always say, "I reserve the right to be (proved) wrong." Or as Winston Churchill and others said, "When facts change, I change my mind." then, because he was a politician, he added, "What to you do Sir!"

Note the "Used to", I add drop words for a reason. The date stamp on the Ratings spreadsheet is 23rd May this year, about a week before I moved house!

I write kinda rough and hardcore stuff, and I get comments telling me what is realistic and what is not in my stories. Like the goal of my written porn is social realism and not just getting off.
It drives me crazy.

Reading Lists were introduced five or six years ago. Before that, there was only Favorites, which people used both for true faves (I want to read that one again) and "I want to read that one later." Some time before that, the site removed broken hearts, which turned up when a story had been unfaved - presumably read, but not put onto a keepers list.

From what I can figure out, Faves currently suggest:
- stories on a reader's Fave's list (I've read and really like this story)
- stories on a read later list (bookmarked)
- stories on a curated list

I've had the same stories favorited three times by the same person which seemed a bit odd - when I looked, the same story was in two different curated lists. I suspect an erotic librarian, or a keen sorter.

Well, anyway, learned something new. Now when I see that someone has 'Favorited' one of my stories, I can at least give them the benefit of the doubt about not rating it.
