hi there, i saw someone follow me and decided to reach out to them. weirdly enough the site wouldn't let me start a conversation. any idea why? it works with multiple other people. i can't find any settings in my own profile that would disable this.

That's on their end. They don't allow private messages.

To turn off private messages? Yes. Its in your Preferences section. Click on your name near the top of the forum UI.
