If you are having a lengthy delay in publishing, please add the name of your story and when submitted here.

For anyone who doesn't know what I was talking about in my first post, or disagree.

This is the post currently right under this one.

Yes, tired of talking about publishing time, until someone has a problem with theirs. That's the history on this topic.

If you're having issues with a story, you need to keep trying to contact the site owner through PM posting here is going to get an eye roll because its instigation at its finest.

The other thing you can try, which has worked for some here, but funny how no one keeps mentioning it:

Delete the stuck story and resubmit. Often, the story will go through because the issue here appears to be that stories are getting lost in limbo in the que and Laurel doesn't 'see' them. Re-submitting is a chance to get it back in the list where it belongs.

Now that you have some history, been reminded that only one person here can help, and they're not fond of having their noses rubbed in problems by attention seekers, and an actual suggestion for something to try....carry on. I'm done with this. Not the issue because I've known it was important from day one, but the cool kid clique who pretends they care about anything but their own stories.

I've yet to be affected by this which I'm sure is pure luck, but if/when it happens, I'll get it resolved the right way, which is to not make a game of it.

Delete the stuck story and resubmit
Do that. It's hard to know when you've waited long enough, but if you're not a new writer, a week, otherwise, I'd say two weeks. Unless you're posting in illustrated category (ffs why??) in which case, substitute months for weeks before resorting to that.

This has been mentioned multiple times across probably all ~half a dozen thread about the issue, repeatedly by @EmilyMiller . So far, it seems to be the most effective workaround until we know more and/or the problem is resolved on Lit's end.

I've been pending for 34 days, and I'm thinking of trying the "withdraw and resubmit" tactic. But I can't find where to withdraw / delete a pending submission? It's probably right in front of me but I don't see it. Where do I go to do that exactly?

One of two approaches.

Go into your pending folder and make a change - just add a space or something - and press save. That will put it back in your drafts. Then either delete it and recreate from scratch, or just resubmit. Just resubmitting worked for me, but I know that other people have deleted and recreated. This is far from an exact science.

I think it’s also because I put it a part of series - and the series cover needs to be moderated, which is why I think it’s taking time,
The series cover art shouldn’t delay the publication of stories - it hasn’t for me.

Awesome, thank you for this reply!

"The Contest: Becoming Sarah" submitted July 22, withdrawn September 9 and immediately re-submitted to get around the black hole glitch. I'm thinking of withdrawing it again.

Open the story in Pending. The little wheel icon, upper right. Click that. You can delete it there. Then you resubmit the way you'd submit a new story.

Given that - made up figure - 1% of stories appear to be getting stuck, and that this 1% does not appear to be correlated to content or being a long-standing author. You could resubmit and be unlucky enough to hit the same glitch twice in a row. Again, this is all speculation.

Stories (series chapters) submitted 08/28, and 09/11, neither have moved out of pending - first has been 30 days now.

No. I edited a few words in the document and resubmitted. Still waiting.

None of my paltry prior 7 stories got sent back and were all approved within 2 or 3 days.
I suspect the edit is the reason for the continued delay, especially since it was not in response to specific concerns in any review.

I resubmitted w/o edits after waiting 36 days, with a note about that to the admins, and got published within 36 hrs.

It will be interesting to see what happens on 2 October when the Lit ‘official’ Halloween contest kicks off. Several Halloween stories, including mine, are hung in Pending. If there is a priority and some type of forward momentum, we should see these published.

Yeah - I really hope the comp entries get sorted out.

I just resubmitted. I left a note for the mods. I got tired of waited after 14 days.

I could not find a way to find the delete button when the story is in draft.

Can anyone point it to me (Screen shot preferred)?

Thank you in advance

Try clicking the gear icon of your story, while on the Drafts tab. You should see this:

I always struggle to find it. Go to the list of your stories, then under draft. Click on the gear for the story and this panel pops up. The delete is a big orange button (shockingly easy to look past).
