The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Another dreary rainy morning but I won't complain because we need the rain. It does give me an excuse to stay inside and get some writing done.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is whistling. There are donuts on the counter and, for @sirhugs, a box of plot bunnies next to the counter that I found in the back room, probably some of @TxRad leftovers.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I found a plot hole that required a rewrite of something I wrote the other day. If you hear any muttering, it's just me and my Muse discussing artistic differences ...

guess I better order more carrots...

We having another beautiful day with brilliant blue skies, a light breeze, and no chance of rain. The weather service says our high should stay below 80.

I brought in four cantaloupes this morning, bringing the total in the second harvest to nine. The vine has more than doubled its expected yield.

I got a little writing done this morning. Now I need to go pull some weeds.

Slept in this morning. C was kind enough to have the coffee ready, "Just press the button!"

Woke up from a weird dream where the next door neighbor had a young man (teenager) doing some work in their backyard, and he was accessing it by driving his car (an old Datsun) on the ruts in our yard left by our recent construction crews - including his tearing down a portion of the new fence to get into their yard. That whole project was an 8-month fiasco, but I never thought it a nightmare.

...sigh...

Don't you hate having nightmares about projects or work? I certainly had some strange nightmares when I was a PI. Thank God, you die in real life when you die in a dream. However, I can see a heart attack being triggered by one.

Oh God, nightmares. I had a really weird one last night. I dreamed that I woke up in an attic room with a big gap in the floor, and between me and the door were a bunch of really big fucking spiders. So I screamed, which sent all of them fleeing. Except the big fat zebra patterned one that was on the hanging light-bulb. It threat displayed at me, and between that and my screaming the bulb was swinging in circles.

Then, I woke up in a nice brown bedroom that was still not my own. So I knew I was still asleep. So I started chanting, "I'm still dreaming, wake up. I'm still dreaming, wake up."

But when I woke up, it was back to the attic room with the swinging bulb spider, and my screaming. And this cycle continued I dunno how many times till I woke up for reals. D= It was crazy.

Must mean something. Was there a black cat?

C's chiropractor "cured" her fear of spiders by drawing a picture of one, handing her the drawing, then directing her to crumple the paper into as tight a ball as she could. She was then told to throw it into the trashcan.

After that she had no qualms about picking up a fly swatter and taking care of things. Funny how subliminal suggestion works.

one of these days when I dream of falling, I expect that I'll hit the ground...

I always have weird dreams when I am sick. My worst night a few nights ago, it was all about writing.

I thought I was still awake, but I had to write all my symptoms down and submit them. And then I had to write everything about what I was going through s a story. It was this weird thing that I was the author and the narrator and the main character in the story. The last stretch of this was at the end of the night, when I (the MC) decided I was just going to experience the symptoms instead of writhing them. The narrator me concurred. But the author me just said, okay write down everything that is happening as you experience this.

I'm always sick, so that might explain my weird dreams. In fact, they began in earnest back in 2019 when I was confined to hospital for 4 1/2 months.

Ugh - the Halloween contest starts in 1 week. Will I have a story ready by then? Hell if I know, I hate Halloween. I suppose that would make a good pretense for a story.

You could have someone who hates Halloween so much, that he always plays the meanest tricks on people who dare to come to his house, which after several years attracts something.

Well, that's moving quickly. It looks like what was supposed to be a quick chat has moved to a job offer. The company is willing to fly Bec and myself across the country for a face to face meeting, and to see if we like the town.

I don't think I'll be able to finish my Halloween story. I see packing in my future.

Good luck with that, Russ.
