What if a wife (or husband, your pick) is a cop... and goes under cover maybe to try to break up a gang or mafia kinda situation?

And, in order to not blow her cover... she finds herself in a predicament where she has to blow one of the "bad guys".

Maybe one of them shows an interest in her which gives her a little protection from being used by ALL of them. So, she doesn't discourage his interest.

But, little by little she feels like she needs to start putting out in order to keep her cover.

Her husband is very understanding and supportive of her work and all the risks that are involved... so long as she is open and honest about everything that happens. So, he hears each night about what new lines were crossed each day. He counts down the days until the end of her 30 day assignment.

The police start making major busts based on her inside information and she's order to keep her cover.

She finds herself living (and liking) her two parallel lives... one with her husband and family... and one with her exiting dangerous lover.

And the dangerous lover keeps pushing her boundaries, slowly but steadily. To what goal? Do they know she/he is a cop & they’re working to be able to blackmail them to turn coat? Any that match certain criteria, she has to go out on a date with... which is also flattering. It's been a long time since she and her husband got dressed up and went out. And the men treat her so well... and flatter her so much.

The husband is very jealous, but, trusts his wife.

At some point the fraudster does take the bait. He's very charming and devious and manipulative. She starts to suspect he's their guy... but... she has to admit, she hopes he's not.

Her husband notices a difference with how she reacts to this guy and is worried and tells her he wants her to get it over with and arrest him. She says they don't have any hard evidence yet and has to keep playing along until they do.

The husband (and her captain) don't understand how she hasn't gotten the evidence she needs. After all, she's been to his house several time... but never had an opportunity to search it as planned.

In order to "keep him on the hook", she needs to keep pretending to be interested in him as they go on date after date... and he keeps expecting the intimacy to progress..

Or maybe the guy isn't a fraudster, but, has been a serial killer. She explains to her husband that she's still perfectly safe. His pattern is to seduce the women, then invite them on a vacation with him... and only kill them after they return. And, since he hasn't invited her on vacation yet, but only seduced her... she's totally safe. No one is sure why he's spending so much more time on the "seduced" phase than with past victims... so she has to keep playing along.

And, even when he invites her on vacation, she says, not to worry, she's not in danger until they return... and by THEN, she will certainly have hard evidence and the police can meet them at the airport when they land.

OR... she's not typically an undercover cop, but, through chance, when off duty, finds herself with a foot in the door, and only THEN the police come to her and ask her to go undercover... undercover as a beat cop with a husband who is in over her head. So, her boyfriend knows she goes home to her husband... that's part of the cover!

If you want to keep the cuckold element, maybe her husband is also a cop and forces his way into getting into the loop, finding out through hidden wires or whatever, what his wife has to do every night.

Maybe a bit different, but what if she goes undercover as a prostitute? The brothel could be a den for drugsdealing, human trafficing, maybe some of the prostitutes are illegal and forced into this work and exploited. She has to find out information about who is pulling the strings and collect evidence.
Of course she has to service clients.

The husband knows that she sometimes has sex as part of her cover, a couple of weeks into the assignment, he decides he wants to have sex as well, maybe she even said that he could to make it fair. He goes to a brothel and sits down, the girls introduce themselves one by one, and then his wife walks in, a bit shocked but of course she introduces herself as her cover.

He of course picks his wife and they have sex, in the room they can talk a bit since the rooms aren't bugged.
He returns nearly daily after this, until.. He asks for her cover name and is told she is already with another customer. His stomach drops, of course he knew that she had to see other's but having it so close by is a rough reality check. He picks a different girl and still manages to enjoy himself.

He keeps going often, one time the wife spots him walking in, happily she awaits to be called on, but to her shock, another prostitute is called on in stead. He picked another girl while she was available...
As she is working hard on her undercover job to earn good money, he is spending it by going to the brothel nearly daily and not even picking her to be with...

Drama, sex, tension, cheating(Sort of), criminals. I think like this it could make a great story.
Personally I don't think I have the writing skills to do it justice, but I would love reading something like this.

She brings back some semi-useful information once in a while... never useful enough to be a real competitive advantage, but, just real enough that he wants more in hopes of something big.

I do think the undercover thing is good. I think it should be about her getting lost in the role and the associated sex. Some things she tells the husband when she checks in, others things she doesn't. She tells him mostly lies. "He's an impotent asshole babe, I miss you so much."
