That Immigration Raid at Hyundai Plant in Georgia

How did things get so fucked up? :)
Simple. The idea that anything short of maximizing profits at all costs is communism.
If Hyundai had been willing to pay a living wage to American employees, there'd have been no incentive to hire undocumented immigrants, who of course will work for much less.

That is the most simplistic take possible. Who was supposed to be watching that? :)

How can there have been no oversight? :)
There's a simple answer to that too: for 45 years, any sort of oversight at all has also been derided as creeping socialism (it is nothing of the sort, but that's beside the point).

Well, it was a multi-month investigation which would indicate it started shortly after Trump took office. They went in with warrants signed off by a judge. And the offenders are a mixed bag and Hyundai claims they were all contractors or sub-contractors and they, the company, were not complicit. So if true Hyundai dodges the bullet legally but you can be damn certain that there were those in management that knew about the illegal status of some of the people on site.

Somebody is making a fuck ton of money. :)
