Writer's Block

So I'm pushing through on a story idea that still, honestly, has no real direction. I dont know the ending yet, or if there's a pount to the story besides me simply trying to write something, ANYTHING, and see what happens.

And yet I'm kinda liking it so far.

It's funny because when I first started all I had were ideas and I never actually plotted anything. I just wrote whatever came to mind and hoped for the best.

As my stories got more complicated, so did my writing process. I had to make sure the stories made sense, and had a conclusion.

But of course lately that's what's stalled me. Id get an idea for a story but no real sense of direction with it.

Im trying to just throw all my doubts out the window and just fucking write again.

even if it sucks.

I don't think it sucks, not yet anyway. it'll need a fuck ton of editing later but right now I'm not worried about that either.

We'll see how it ultimately works out. 🤞

Reading this, I kinda got an image in my head of you riding a train that is also a dragon, while frantically typing away at a type writer, and every time you finished a page a flying monkey would snatch it up, and chew on it, before spitting it at the wall to see if it stuck.

I think that's the longest run on sentence I've written in a week.

It's a great mental image though 👌

sort of how I wrote "Mom's new Cock". The opening line popped into my head and I just followed it..no idea of the plot, let alone the conclusion. Thus the weirdness. But I kind of enjoy weirdness.

Welcome to the wonderful world of pantsing!

update:
almost 2000 words in. One sex scene included. Another spot marked to go back and insert sex (maybe?).
Still trying to get the tentacle monster out of the drain.
Now must...keep...going...
Don't think any of the false starts has reached 2000 words yet.

what does pantsing have to do with my writers block?

That's pantsing (as opposed to plotting, rather than anything to do with other people's underwear - from "flying by the seat of your pants", I guess). Having an idea and starting to write, without plotting out the story or arcs or beats.

that's just what I call writing.

... it is possible that the tentacle monster has made an appearance. The challenge now is to make tentacle sex fresh.

That is tricky. On the other hand, there are so many ways that tentacle sex could go, that keeping it engaging shouldn't be too hard.

So, do tentacle monsters belong in non-human, or sci-fi? My last one I put in non-human.
I also put mine in non-human, but I've seen them in both.

For me personally, if the setting is more modern and mundane then I put it in non-human. However, if the setting is far more science fictiony then I would put it in sci-fi.

But, there are people out there who think that any time you have a non-human as part of the sex then it should go into non-human.

So, it really boils down to which school of thought are you.

I don't think I could be the sort of person that could just sit down and write something fresh on the spur of the moment. I'm sure even attempting that would induce writer's block in me.

My process is that I'll get a germ of an idea in my head, either a single scenario, a picture, a question, or even in one case, a pun. Then I'll think on this germ of an idea for a few days or weeks until I have a start, middle and end of a story pencilled out in my mind. If an idea gets past that stage, then I flesh it out further in a story planner format, if it still looks good at that point, then I start writing. This means that I have a LOT of stories that never make it out of the idea or planning stage, but if I do start writing, I'm fairly confident about getting a finished piece.

For better or worse, I only get chance to write occasionally, which means that it can take me a long time to get from the planning stage to the final polished story, but it does mean I have a lot of time to come up with new ideas before finishing a current story.

I sometimes just start with an opening line. In other cases, I have worked out a rough idea in my head before I rite. Most of my stories I think fall in between, where I "see" the beginning" immediately. The story then plays out in my mind like a movie and I race to type the words before I lose them. Sometimes I see the ending off in the distance before I reach it, other times it is a surprise to me, often something quite different from what I would have guessed. That is the case with the new tentacle monster story.

The tentacle monster story is submitted.
Hopefully on to the next one tomorrow (why waste a holiday).
Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement.
@sirhugs,
Excellent... I shall keep an eye out for it. With respect to your question about non-human vs. sci-fi, if it's on earth, regardless of where it came from, I would think non-human. If it's not on earth I would think sci-fi. However, my brain-wiring may be a bit iffy...!
Respectfully,
D.
