The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I had a relatively quiet day today. It was overcast, off and on sprinklers, but warmish in the high 70s. I was going to take the boat out but decided not. So I did what any self respecting girlie would do. I did my nails! 💅

Tonight someone is blowing off fireworks. 🤬🤬 My girl is on my lap freaking out! 😟

Have a good rest of your long weekend, everyone! 💞✨💕
Hello!

I'm sure glad that this is a long weekend because this crap has hit harder than anything has in awhile. Not done cycling through it just yet.

I'm drinking fluids, God damnit!!!
Well…I’ve joined you in Sick Call 😠🤕🤧. Fuuuudge. Had a day off in Miami and woke up to not just a sore throat but a burning throat. Started blowing junk then the left ear clogged. That puts me out of commission so now here I sit. Three more days of my tour and wondering how I’m getting home. Can’t really fly, so faced with a long drive from the Everglades to the Old North State. 😯.

I guess I’ll go and find an ER or Doc-in-Box and try and get some meds. Maybe have a miraculous turnaround in the next 24 and salvage the rest of my tour. I hate getting sick. Especially in hot weather.

Sorry to hear it bro. M

Feel better, listen to Liliana’s instructions!

Thanks! I’ve found as soon as something comes up, my first inclination is to dial up Lili & MissK’s Nurse-On-Call service!

I trust a nurse before all.

I may have relayed this story here before; had a spot of evil Squamous Cell on my hand. Had the MOAS (sp?) procedure done and a few days later my hand goes numb. Call the doc but get her nurse. She tells me, “oh, they just hit a nerve, it will be back to normal in around 10 weeks…”. I go in for my six week check up and tell doc…She starts popping chaff, and saying the procedure wasn’t deep enough to hit a nerve…blah, blah, blah. I told her…I’ve owned this hand for 55 yrs and it was never numb till you cut a divot out of it! 🤣

Long story short. Right around the 8-9 weeks mark, hand went back to normal…just like the NURSE said! 🥰

AI is really good at adding extra appendages, and it also gets some impossible proportions sometimes, too. Yes, good bibe otherwise.

Best wishes on feeling more gooderer soonest. This shit is stubborn. It's still hangin' around.

I had a tooth extracted about a month ago. My lip is still partially numb from it. They say it will go back to normal… and it is, very very slowly…

And the fucking jaw pain… it’s still bad… it’s been four week! Been back a few times and the doc sez it looks ok to him.

I told a DITB young doc that living in this body for 50-odd years (whatever is was at the time) made me the all-time expert on in in all of recorded history, and that when I say something is fucked, it's because it's fucked, and that I wasn't asking to know what I already know but for his majesty to shed a bit of light on what I don't fucking know. Our relationship improved immediately.

I'm certain he was ecstatic when I left.

Keep nagging. He sewed his socket wrench up in your face or something.

Over 10 years ago, I needed a job and tried out being a maintenance grunt for a ragged-assed apartment complex a few miles from the house. It was built around 1950 and consisted of 126 buildings and 294 apartments. They were woeful, they were forlorn, and they were fire traps. The owner was a milker. Repairs were made with what my grandmother called thumbtacks and chewing gum. The maintenance budget was adequate, but the supervisor's goal was to spend less than half of it each month and report the balance as "profit," which is, of course, not what profit is. I quickly learned the system, how not to get bogged down with changing out parts that could be lubed and/or massaged to get another 90 days out of them. As long as the furnaces worked and the plumbing stayed in the pipes and the electrical didn't ignite the places, all was well. Well enough. Anyway, I got canned but it was already time to move on anyway.

Bad as that place was, it was still all there in all its rambling waste of space glory when I last rode through there first of the year. Remember, I've been working out of town since the end of January this year. I happened to go that way last week and was shocked to see that 200 of the apartment units are gone. As in, fenced in grass needs cutting something new will be going in soon enough Gee Oh En Eee. There is still a clutch of buildings near the back of the parcel, those same rattraps with the destitute who live there, and probably that's enough to service the financing. I wager they can get buildings and off-skreet (it's da 'hood, y'all) parking for 300 units on what they cleared. Here's wagering it'll take until no earlier than Spring of '26 to get going, but who knows?

Think of the poor undeserving displaced rats . . . .

And I thought I had it bad when I started my first job, working on an ambulance, scraping up what was left of gang violence in Philadelphia, PA. ...lovely...
All the training in the world doesn't prepare you for what you're to experience.

Yeah, I made it through paramedical training but sometimes it's freaking war zone in the good ole US of A.

Well, got up and called the “mans” hotline. Told them I couldn’t go today. Gave me the day off, so went back to and snoozed, got up went down for breakfast and decided I better find a local Doc to give me some meds to get home on. Went in and got a two swabs, testing for 19 evils. Was NEG on all but a RhinoVirus?

Turned out it was the University of Miami’s hospital. Nice and clean and had fun flirting with the Cuban and Columbian nurses.😘. Jumped in my OoooooBer and my girl was rock’n the Yacht Rock radio. Serenading me in broken English!🤣
She did a passable Maurice in falsetto to this forgotten gem:

Recipe please
Because we don’t really drink milk, it’s a non-milk recipe.

1 cup buckwheat flour
1 container yogurt (flavored or non flavored)
2 tsp oil (we use grapeseed)
1.5 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 to 3/4 cup of water, depending on how you like your batter. Add the water in very slowly a little bit at a time while stirring.

That’s it!

My wife likes it with butter, peanut butter, syrup, and topped with some sort of fresh fruit. Today I chose fresh peaches because they’re so yummy right now.
