I'm not going to drag @FrancesScott back in if she's bowing out and this isn't want she was asking for, but this conversation reminded me of a thread we had on here at least a year-ago (possibly longer). I haven't been able to find it, but I did find the chart that was the subject of discussion. Now, from what I remember, this was the very opposite of a peer-reviewed study - it was a woman (IIRC) who wrote about sex asking her readers to rank their fetishes - so obviously very skewed.

If you look at it for long enough, it starts to become almost funny how practically all the submissive and violent types of fetishes skew female. For example, men seem to have a whole thing about various bodily functions (semen, breast milk, farting/belching, scat) but then when blood is involved it suddenly switches back to far majority female. It's the sort of chart I don't want to be true, some of the fetish choices raise some eyebrows and my gut is telling me to attack the methodology but then I see something like 'monsters' and remember, oh yeah, chicks dug the Twilight Saga.

At the end of the day, I think as erotic authors, we'd all like perfect statistical data on what people actually want and we're never going to get it. I'd be wary of making claims like 'The majority of women have a rape fetish' but for the purposes of writing fiction, these people exist and these people can be fictionalized into stories.

Well, I'm mostly surprised to see that Financial Domination skews so much towards women. Take that, @nice90sguy !

I'm equally suprised, and my initial reaction was "so where are all my findommes at", but then I realised that the Y axis, "reported interest in" doesn't mean "gets turned on by". So its not really that suprising that women find findom "interesting".

Looking at some of the other data points, sadly, I'm suspecting the chart is a bit iffy tbh. I mean, "gay men" skews completely female? really??

Do you think it could be some kind of Madonna complex? Marriage and motherhood is touted as the "heroic self-sacrifice" that woman make for society (The Virgin Mary) in some conservative circles. Men die in wars. Women die in childbirth.

No, not at all. Both my mother and I have shunned Mother's Day celebrations. I suffered not a smidgen of empty nest syndrome. I was totally into motherhood being a case of bring little people to adulthood. Bottom line, I'm very, very unsentimental. But I'm glad you put some thought into this. It helps hone my understanding.

I don't think you understood my point. What I was saying, when I asked if you doubted that women had rape fantasies is this: If you insist on formal studies to demonstrate something, you must doubt that something to some degree. Some of us don't doubt it, and don't ask for formal studies.

I’m out on this subject. But in arguing in general.

You are engaging in a straw woman argument. I asked about studies confirming that a majority of women have rape fantasies. You respond by asking about whether any women do. That’s a classic straw woman argument. You attack something that wasn’t asked, normally as you can’t attack what was asked.

I don’t argue with people who employ straw women arguments as they aren’t acting in good faith.

So why didn't you get that specific in your first response? I didn't notice the "majority" part of your statement. But you didn't deign to assume that I misunderstood and to clarify.
