Indeed! An independent justice department of the executive branch can bring charges, which will be tried by the judicial branch. The second and third branches, together, combined with a jury of citizens, can throw a member of the first branch in jail.

Or the executive could just whip up a mob to storm the capitol and hang the legislators who displease him. . . .

That’s not the issue here. The Constitution vests all executive power in the President, period. Congress cannot pass laws that diminish the President’s plenary Article II authority. Trump has already beaten back 16 straight Supreme Court challenges to that authority, all brought by people like you who pretend to know the law but clearly don’t

Congress passed laws like the War Powers Act and the Impoundment Act to curb the President's authority. Of course, the legislature can also relinquish their authority, as when they allowed the President to set "emergency" tariffs. Trump is only getting away with ruining your country because the Republicans in Congress are wussies.
