The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Well, chapter 3 is pending now. Went from 2k words to just under 3.5k, with much more detail and info. Excited to see what the response is to this one :3

Also; how many words do y'all average per day? Per week? Whatever measure of time lets you estimate for your workflow, lol

On a good day, I can bang out 5k words. On a bad day, -20. I've no idea what my average is, because I'm kinda all over the place.

That's so fair. Last night I wrote for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half and did like 2k. Can't imagine how much I'd get done if I worked on it all day, but I'd get so burnt out after a few hours

I think that's true for many people. Usually when I can get out more it's because I actually manage to drop into the zone, and then it's just me and my story.

2k for me is a really good day. I had Fri, Sat, and Sun free for writing and got 7k words. I could maybe have gotten more but I wrote myself into a corner and couldn't figure out how to end it.

I'm a pretty pure discovery writer (I like that term better than "pantser"), and I almost never write sober. Both of those mean I spend a lot of my "writing time" staring at something without seeing it while my mind crunches though possibilities.

Ay, same! Except I'm very rarely high when writing (and I don't drink much anymore). But I have notes of story elements and details spread between two apps and like 10 documents, but other than that I have a rough storyboard in my head that I adjust as I write. Works fucking great for me

When I got 'in the zone' so to speak, I'd get going on a story and keep at it until it was done, or close to it. I'd find my self not really sleeping for extended periods and the word count would get to 4 or 5K without much thinking about it.

Another beautiful sunny morning with highs in the 90s later today. We may get some rain but I won't hold my breath ...

There's a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is hot. There are cookies and coffee cake on the counter today.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I finally worked through a tough spot and the work count is ticking up. The mad '2' bomber has taken my story down to 4.69 and it's starting to piss me off ... it's not even anywhere on the top list anymore and they're still bombing it ...

Crazy world... There are several things like this I've found...where there are actually 3-4 different 'correct' ways to spell it, depending on either preference, or region of the world... and different spell checkers seem to use different preferences...lol

I once beta reader for a native and my word processor underlined some words. I was like oh, ay, maybe they used UK English, and changed it in the settings, and… a bunch of other words got underlined. So it was some kind of a bastard mix of the two. So, yeah, you’re not the only one.

Personally I’m arrogant enough to not use any grammar helpers even though I’m ESL, but still this is something that drives me nuts. I once threw a fit when my beta reader pointed out that I should use snowplow instead of snowplough, and I was like I know the fucking word for a lumiaura and it’s not enough?

The struggle is real 😄

This sounds a lot nicer than “zoning out” or “flatlining” that I find myself doing in the same situation, almost for the same reason… I’m too old to get drunk for writing, otherwise I think my process would be very similar to yours.

Over here, Tuesday morning was a lot easier than Monday, but that’s how it usually goes. By Friday, I’ve almost gotten used to waking up, and then I lose all momentum over the weekend.

I have written a mix of an outline and a very rough rough draft for The Great Cupcake Caper. I am going for as ridiculously silly as I can make it. My short description is Thomas Crown written as Rocky Horror with a complete lesbian cast. Maybe a touch of Mischief Theater Company as well. The polar opposite of almost everything I write.

I can't believe I am actually going to do this, but I think I am. I fully expect to make it easily my lowest rated story. Helps keep me from getting too obsessed with ratings. The goal is to submit it for the Crime and Punishment series. All the characters but one are based on regulars in AH. I would be shocked if anyone gets all the references.

I had been fighting some post submission blahs after submitting my weepy romance yesterday morning (scheduled to appear tomorrow), but trying to write this seems to have cured that.

I've found that writing something silly is usually the best cure for that.

I haven't seen that happen since 1970. It happened to my dad's car while we were visiting here from a more northerly clime.
Well, the car in question is rather elderly, and darkly colored, and I don't recall it getting this hot any of the previous summers we've had it. Or ever really.
