Tariffs, aka taxes, in action - auto edition

Maybe we should get back to discussing why you hate Trump for his tarriffs. :)
Why? You aren't into hate like Trump is. I seldom think of your input as 'discussion', you are not very communicative about how you feel about his actions at all. ;)

I'm more or less satisfied with Trump's policies. :)
I'm not. Herding people up like cattle and deporting them without due process is wrong. Blanket tariffs without an economic rationale are wrong. Trump doesn't consult anyone; he reacts to the bells ringing in his head for answers. Somehow he thinks he knows more about economics than anyone, even though he didn't study or major in economics. He majored in grifting, as I recall. Those are his less satisfying measures.

The ones I think he has done well on are.... [I'm going to have to get back with you on this. It may take some research...:giggle:]

This is classic denialism. Take a fact, twist it to obscure the underlying truth, claim to be an expert without having any personal knowledge, and finally declare yourself superior to everyone in your belief of yourself.
You NaiLed it! That wallstreetguy is ExActly like this. He’s said so in his replies even. I’m glad you picked up on that as well. You’re so astute and observant, you should have been a lawyer with all your insight.

But honestly, Arphy, as a lawyer in real life, you’re being a bit overly melodramatic in claiming I declared myself superior to anyone. I’ve never made such a statement — you’ve fabricated it for me, and that’s without my consent. In legal circles, that’s called misrepresentation, and when it’s aimed at damaging a person’s reputation, it starts sounding a lot like defamation.

So how about we both stick to speaking for ourselves — that way, you avoid putting false words in my mouth, and I avoid thinking you’re auditioning for the role of a god dispensing truth from on high. We know your reputation is based upon discussion of death by 12V battery and carbon water debates. Those didn't end well, much like this foray outside your areas of expertise.

All I can say is it sucks to be you. :)

I have noticed that this is a typical response for you; it's about all you do say.

I've never said that before. Maybe you're thinking of someone else? :)
Perhaps you lost your train of thought in the conversation. I've gone through the weeds. Your answers are short and non-committal, and ultimately, this claim suggests it sucks to be me. Now you claim you never said that before or it was someone else. Nope. It's right here. You said it. Hope this helps to clear it up for you.

It makes me a little sad that Trump makes you so upset. That and my level of participation is not up to you. :)

Quarterly sales drop 9% from a year ago.

"Global companies that reported between July 16 and August 8 projected a combined financial hit of $13.6 billion to $15.2 billion for the full year, a Reuters' tariff tracker shows.

"Trump has said the tariffs are a response to persistent U.S. trade imbalances and declining manufacturing power, and that the moves will bring jobs and investment to the nation."

Well, John Deere is already in the USA. So why is it losing money over tariffs?

I have antiacids for Trump. ;)

Life has a way of presenting lemons when you expect savory peaches for dessert. Trump is that kind of fruit that is more sour than sweet. That, and he is a bad person to begin with.

Though I would enjoy you being more open to declaring your views rather than being so non-committal, but, hey, that's not meant as disparagement. The goal is to encourage expressing opinions on his policies with more substance. :)

Maybe profits are down because Deere makes overcomplicated junk with too much software. A tractor can be a basic machine, but Deere saw an opportunity for monopolizing repair profits. Any tractor with less or no software and repairs that can be done by any local tractor mechanic may be a much better deal to farmers who can't wait for service.

The dystopian loon doesn’t realize that companies can exactly account for how much they pay in TrumpTariffs.
