The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2025 Contest Support Thread

Really? Some think Dracula was rather erotic.

Jack The Ripper was a crime story that dealt with some really nasty things, but the victims were sex workers, no?

Yeah, I suppose I can see that about Dracula. Jack the Ripper, no, I can't get my blood rushing to that. My limitation I suppose. I'll have to work on that though as I feel like, "Challenge Accepted".

They're FUN to write.

I'll need to do a little research as I am now intrigued by the thought.

Thank you, that's helpful. (y)

I think I am more concerned about making it scary than making it horny.

A number of my fans have convinced me that there are MANY people out there who really, really enjoy werewolf sex.

With vampires, it's built in: exchange of bodily fluids, penetration, bites... the intimacy is already there.

I like writing witches, too. There's a lot they can do.

Submitted mine only about an hour ago and it has already been waved through :O

It's my longest contest entry, at 29k words. Might be like my 2nd or 3rd longest standalone story overall.

Fun fact: when I originally conceived it, I actually thought it's gonna fit into LW and was fully prepared to stir that hornets' nest if it came to it. The plot bunnies led me elsewhere, though (some would say astray), and in the end the LW-worthy aspects were downplayed enough that I felt First Time is an obvious choice.

Hopefully I get enough votes since it seems like a pretty dead category :(
Mine didn’t take long either. A couple hours, maybe, assuming it being dated for the 15th in my pending means it’s officially in the queue.

I’m looking forward to feverishly refreshing my dashboard for awhile after it posts. It’s been awhile.

The combination of Published and New badges on the story in Pending is a sign that it's been scheduled for the date indicated.

Yes, I know that a Published story in Pending section is a contradiction, but that's just how Lit signals it passed the mod queue 🤷‍♂️

Wrote up a quick little sweet nothing for this one. Good luck to everyone.

Help! The story I submitted for this contest was returned to me saying a character was underage who wasn't. The paragraph cited states clearly she is 20.

The editor misread or misunderstood and gave me the option to resubmit the story with changes to a volunteer editor.

Is there a way to show the original editor that no changes need to be made? What's the remedy for this?

Resubmit with a note to admin that says basically what you did here. (Make sure to include the contest-mandatory phrase still).

The usual caveats - when in doubt - add an ‘all characters over 18’ at the beginning, watch out for mentions of underage settings (like high school), and screen for keywords like girl or child. Say ‘pretty young woman’ and not ‘a pretty girl’.

Also be careful with underage keywords, like "12-year-old" (whiskey). Yes, I'm serious.

Out of interest, from ‘How to break the literotica top list’ by @Tink4Fairy:

Erotic Horror

A misunderstood category if there ever was one... Perhaps it's a pet peeve of mine, but there should be a sign on the door: No Vampires and Werewolves Allowed. Those should go into the non-human category. But unfortunately, you'll find lots of Anne Rice wannabe's here along with your "I'm not a dog, I'm a werewolf!" stories. True Erotic Horror should encompass both eroticism and horror, in a way that's not always titillating, but should at the very least be shocking and—here's the important part—integral to the story. If you can take the sex out, and still have the horror, it's not really erotic horror. Okay, down off my soapbox. How do you write a toplist story in this category? Make it scary and horrific, make sure the sex and horror are somehow related, and make it a good story. Erotic horror readers are truly looking for a story, not just titillation. A great example of this is Scold's Bridle by BlackShanglan.
I strongly considered putting my summer story into Erotic Horror instead of Scifi & Fantasy...

But the category seems so insular, it's not at all clear what the audience there wants to read, the only stories there that seem to get any views at all (and not all that many even then) are long-running series, and comment engagement is practically nothing.

S&F views aren't a ton better, to be fair, but the audience seems more engaged and open-minded!

Perhaps the Erotic Horror fans only come alive during October/November, and otherwise sleep in their crypts... Oh wait... apparently that's Non-human!

Finished and submitted. Still rather short (compared to my non-erotic stories) but at 12,000 words, my longest so far here. It’s a Lesbian story.

I honestly think there's something to this.

The only stories I've really put into EH are some Halloween entries, and they've always gotten great engagement. I think it might be a "contest thing."

Halloween is the most popular contest in terms of submissions, so it's probably up there in terms of views as well. I suspect it could prop up an entry in any category, even Letters and Transcripts ;)
